New to This Journey and Scared!

Hey guys! I am 21, 5'2"-5'3" and weigh(ed) 230lbs on September 18th. I've lost about 4lbs since then, and it's pretty exciting. I'm doing this journey for myself so that I can be happier with who I am and hopefully have more confidence rather than always being shy and nervous. I'd like to lose 100lbs by early 2017 but worried about things I may not be doing right! I've been calorie counting since I began, but I've not exercised much as I am terrified of stepping into a gym and being judged, as silly as that sounds. I've been changing my dieting habits and being positive. Anyone have advice/friendship to offer? I'd really appreciate it! Nice to meet all of you, have a great day.

Welcome. You don't have to go to a gym to exercise. There are lots of things you can do. It's important to increase your movement. You can walk, then walk faster, and work your way up to jogging. You can look at YouTube videos--You are your own gym, etc... You can exercise at home. All of this to get started. Once you feel a little more comfortable, you can evaluate a gym membership. It's just important to start, and build from there. Best of luck to you.0

I am looking forward to doing the little things, YouTube will be my friend I am sure! Thank you for such great advice!0 -
I just recently started back working out as well, so I totally understand being nervous about it! Everyone above has given great advice.
The best thing that I can tell you is to keep up with your nutrition. No one is perfect and we don't always eat right. But I try to make sure that I eat within my calorie deficit and attempt to avoid fast food as much as possible. Food prepping is a great way to keep your diet under control! I love it.
You're doing something right! Now keep it up! With a community like this, you can definitely succeed! Everyone here will support you!
If you need a friend, feel free to shoot me a request!0 -

First, I am sending you a friend request. I have noticed the more support you have here the better you do. As far as working out, you do not have to go to the gym...as suggested above youtube is great and so is walking, jogging, running. Right now I am not working out at all (yea have a 2 month old, 6 year old, 12 year old, and 16 year old...the older kids aren't with us all the time but the 2 month old is, work a full time job, and am taking care of my elderly in-laws that are sickly right now) BUT I do plan on getting some steps in with my FitBit when it is delivered (hopefully today ) As far as calorie counting honestly different stuff works for different people, some people are good eating whatever as long as they are within their calorie intake; some do better with low carb, high fat, mod protein; some can't eat meat; ect but the fact is if you are eating less calories than you are burning than you will lose weight. Advice--find what works for you and if you research what you are doing and find that it is working for you and are being healthy with it than don't let other people's opinion get to you. You will find here in the main forum those who absolutely disagree with LCHF while others disagree that it is all about just cutting calories, as long as what you are doing is not unhealthy (say an extremely low calorie intake a day or only eating one food group, ect) you will be fine. Also, search the groups for a group of people with similar interest, there you may find some more help as well.0 -
It can be scary when you think you have such a long road. If you want it bad enough, you can surely lose 100 pounds! I also am gonna shoot you a friend request..I have been on mfp for 4 years. I totally agree with everything "clayswife" said...Congrats on losing 4 lbs!!0
