So, I could use some inexpensive (free?) ideas on how to entertain my 5 year old this summer. I do not want him spending the summer in front of the tv, and its HOT HOT HOT outside. 102 yesterday...sigh.

The library is one of my favorite places to go. For the kids, they usually have story telling and sometimes even crafts. Maybe you can treat him to lunch at a place with a playground [Chick-fil-a]. Water play is also great. Get some water balloons and let him go to town. Water guns are fun too.

Check your local library for a Summer Reading Program. Even if your child doesn't like yo read, they have a ton of great activities and programs! I work as a librarian and our summer program is always a big hit!

I don't know where you're writing from but what about...

    waterpark (free ones)
    lake
    sprinkler in the yard
we actually used to fill buckets with cold water and the kids would put there toy sin and play. If it was too hot they got in to cool off! Big storage buckets and LOTS of supervision (obviously)
In a pinch a cold bath with bath toys (we don't have air con)
    water balloons
back yard kiddie pool (lots of supervision)
    community pool?

Hope that helps, hang in there!

Most libraries have free passes to local museums and attractions. Just ask at the front desk or check the website.
