Help I want to eat

I'm ashamed to say I have no will power. I've only been here a week and I'm already suffering. I've thought about eating all day today. I've had images of ''food porn' running round my head all day. I'm craving danish pastries with pecans as I type. What is wrong with me?
I am counting the minutes until dinner.
If every day is like today, I'm not gong to make it until the end of the week!

Hi
Are you eating enough "clean" food - processed food can contain a lot of calories and very little nutritional value and can make you feel hungry. Are you eating enough calories? Don't starve yourself. Are you eating enough protein? Protein helps keep you full longer. Are you drinking enough water?0 -
hey lynn,...try eating every 3 hours, chose foods that will fill you up, low in calories and high in fiber...you should not feel hungry now we all want that danish, but that's not what we are going to have if we want to make our goals...good luck0

It will get easier. I remember feeling like that. Just don't give in, the hunger and cravings will be less and less once you get used to eating this way. Let your body adjust without caving!0

I had that same problem when I started counting calories!!! I found that if I slowly ate less each day, I started to be less hungry and actually was able to stick to my target calories (some days!). Just hang in there0

No more meals. Figure out what you want to eat for the day and spread it out. If you have cereal and a banana for breakfast, seperate them. Sandwich and chips for lunch, seperate. So, cereal at 7, banana at 8, chips at 9:30, sandwich at 11:00, and so on.0

just try and solder on, I have those days also. I drink water and it stops the cravings, if you still feel like eating, try and eat something healthy, I wish you well and keep thinking about the end result. :flowerforyou:0

This is something new to your body, it's used to getting pretty much anything it WANTED whenever it wanted. I still struggle with thinking about food. When i started this journey i never thought that i was addicted until I actually had to discipline myself...
I know how you are feeling and although the feeling is pretty much always there, it does get easier especially when you start seeing results! keep up the good work and Good luck

I sent you a message on what I did to get rid of my bad eating habits0

Hey you! Yeah, the first week of a NEW LIFESTYLE can be rough - but you CAN do this
One thing that helped me out some in the beginning is MAKING MYSELF find a few hobbies to occupy time with. I went to my local craft store, got a few projects there. some were boring, but some were fun and I still do them today.
Realizing why we've eaten TOO MUCH and at the wrong times is really very valuable too. Ya know - why did I end up in this mess in the first place?? Not enough to just say well- I'm an emotional/stress eater. But figure out how to replace food with something even more enjoyable.
So as you are eating clean, counting calories, getting enough protein, water, exercise and a big one- REST.......also find some new activities to distract your mind and give you some new fun!
Best of Luck :flowerforyou:0 -

Carb-a-holic is what it is, you need a good week of pure protein, to get you on you way. Eat as much protein as you want for 1 week, then slowly introduce good clean carbs, not the junky stuff. This will help reduce the amounts of strong cravings. You will still get them from time to time, don't over indulge, and try to eat them later in the day. So that you get to go to bed not to long after, because usually once you have a couple of bits, you continue to crave the rest of the day. Or at least this is how I am.
ETA: Plus drink plenty of no calorie fluids (water is best), at least 1.5 liters a day.0 -
Can you enjoy a planned healthy snack (with protein and fiber?) and then get your hands busy with something? Hang on !!!0

Hi lynn! It's tough, isn't it? Given you are craving sugary, carb loaded foods (love your term of food porn!!), I am betting your body is literally "detoxing" from the sugar and carbs if you ate that with any regularity and have now stopped. I believe that no food is inherently bad but there are foods that are better for us. We need to choose the better for us foods a good portion of the time and allow ourselves the choice to eat that ooey-gooey now again. That said, to get through the cravings, I drink water, eat low calorie snacks and/or take a short, brisk walk. I also drink a nice hot cup of tea (cures everything!) You are definitely wanting to make good choices as you asked for help. And if you do eat the ooey-gooey, take an extra long walk and refocus to your goals! Let me know if I can help in any way!0

Try drinking a lot of water. Also, if you are craving something really bad, I say have a very small piece of whatever for your desert at supper, then your craving will be gone! I'm not losing quickly, however I think I can continue this way, by doing it gradually and not sacrificing things I really love. Of course I figure in those calories in my daily allotment and only if I have exercised that day. Many nights I have 1/2 cup of ice cream or very small slice of lemon or orange chiffon cake for my desert. Good luck, and don't give up!0

Find something to do. Anything, that doesn't involve food but will keep you occupied. I also find that sucking on a breath mint (I love Wint-O-Green lifesavers) can help to distract my taste buds just long enough to get past the craving.
I equate these "cravings" to an addiction and you have to somehow get past the "withdrawal" phase. I wish I had some magic solution for you, but if I did I suppose I would be rich beyond my wildest dreams. Trying to get to the root cause of why you eat things that are not good for you is the hardest thing to do, and the main reason that most people with chronic weight issues will yo yo up and down. Personally, I have never been able to determine why I eat badly or how I can go for months and months eating well and then suddenly backslide.
Good luck, and I hope you can get through this tough time.0 -
Hi Lynn,
I thought of a couple suggestions: 1) no soda (I swear diet soda makes me crave sweets), 2) change up your routine (I used to snack when I got home from work. Now, I'll keep my mind off of food i.e. clean out a drawer, do laundry, weed my flower bed, go for a walk. 3) plan out your daily calories ahead of time (maybe just one sweet bite is all you need). 4) at work, walk the stairs for 5 minutes. 5) keep a thin photo of yourself with you for encouragement 6) lots of water and veggies.
I hope this help!

I understand.... for me it's later evenings, and sometimes even after I eat dinner. I'm not hungry in the slightest, but I start thinking about something tasty and then start craving it, and I have no idea why. Hang in there!0

Thank you all for your comments. A lot of good sense coming from you guys. I can see a few things that I can take on board. I have a job interview tomorrow. It's only a voluntary role. But it look like fun, so that should take my mind off food for a day. I'm going to take this one day at a time. You all say it gets better so I will try and hang on in there. My body is adjusting to the lack of calories and is telling my subconscious to do something about it I guess.
I felt much better after dinner. Lean meat, grilled with corn on the cob, boiled no butter(honest) then a rhubarb yoghurt.
My profile says I'm not eating enough. Which I don't understand at all. I am a few calories short everyday. But not many. I really want to lose the weight this time around. And I am fearful this system won't work, just like all the others I've tried in the past.
Nice to 'meet' so many of you. I'm reading all the recommendations and making notes.
Many thanks you kind lovely people!
Onwards and downwards!!!0
