What to do once you get OUT of a weight loss plateau?

Okay, I'm already out of my plateau (knock on wood) that I've been in for a little over a week. Now, to get out of the plateau I walked 5 miles instead of 2-3 and cut down on calories a smidge. So my question is this, to continue losing weight... do I need to continue walking 5 miles a day? Because obviously my body got used to what I was doing before, right?? Help! Tia!

No, it's not obviously because your body got used to anything.

If it was an actual, true-to-life plateau and not a stall then, yeah, you'll need to maintain the additional calorie deficit you now have.

One week isn't even close to a plateau. Generally it's staying the same weight for 4 to 6 weeks so that one week you didn't lose could be anything...too much sodium, TOM, having a bigger meal than normal the night before weighing.

So, having said that, do what you've already been doing with success before panicking.

And when you actually do hit one, recalculate the calories you're supposed to be eating because that goes down the less you weigh, weigh your food if you don't already, and double check your calorie burn from exercise.

It's a natural stall, not a plateau. Be patient and keep to what you've been doing. If you still don't lose after another 3-4 weeks, then it's time to readjust something, whether it be tightening up your logging, increasing/modifying your activity, or both.

Thank you! I'll keep doing what I was doing and see what happens.
