How many calories for partial breastfeeding?

Hi,

would you add any calories to your daily amount for breastfeeing partially (means only in addition to proper baby meals)? I am afraid to gain once I stop feeding otherwise!

I know that in weight watchers people are getting something around 280 cals extra, which seems quite high to me...was thinking about adding 100 cal extra per day.

What do you think? What did other mums do? Is anyone experienced with weight gain after stopping breastfeeding and eating the same amount of calories?

Many thanks in advance for your help!

I was eating 1900-2000 cal/day while breastfeeding. My only exercise was a walk with the stroller everyday. Once I stopped breasfeeding, I got my calories back to 1700-1800 and started running. My weightloss rate was very low (0,5 lbs a week) but at the time I wasn't very concerned with losing fast!
Feel free to add me, I log everyday!

Estimate how many ounces you think baby is getting and calculate 20 cal per ounce.

As long as you keep tracking your food, you'll be able to spot any weight gain. As long as your exercise levels don't change you shouldn't see a rapid jump in weight.

I personally would stick with the +500 calories. Your body is either lactating or it isn't. If it is, it needs energy to make milk. Go on how you feel and if you think supply is dipping or you feel hungry, add more calories in until you feel good and the food you are eating is sustaining your energy output. Good Luck!

I produce a lot of milk for my 12 week old so I need at least 600 cal to stay on track. Even babies that eat solid a average about 20 oz a day.
