I don't know what's happening

My calories are climbing and I don't know why. I'm eating the same kinds of foods I always have, but now I just eat. I don't know why, but I was doing so well. Eating at a deficit had become genuinely easy and now all of a sudden I can't even stick to minimal weight loss. I'm nowhere near my goal weight. I have 6kg to go and I'm really worried I'm gonna gain weight. I'm only 5,2 so the tiniest bit shows so much. I was just starting to feel good about myself and now I feel like I've lost all control.

How many calories are you set to eat each day?0

Are you using a scale to weigh your food out? Eyeballing makes it easier to miscalculate the calories of whatever you're eating. Would definitely recommend investing in a food scale (if you don't already have one) and start using that to weigh/record your items. Also, 6kg (13.2lbs) isn't too far off from your goal--have you thought about lowering your desired loss per week and taking a more leisurely path (higher calorie allowance) towards goal? If you aren't pressed for time, take it a bit slower and maybe in conjunction with a food scale, maybe it will help you reestablish control? Hope this helps, good luck!0

I think she means she doesn't know why she suddenly is feeling out of control with her eating, not that she is shocked to see the number of calories. How long has that been happening? Just having a binge?0

Have you been over restricting yourself?0
-
I haven't been restricting at all, apart from just weight loss but even then I was keeping it a reasonable amount. I wouldn't call it a binge because it's throughout the day. I just can't see why i suddenly can't resist food. I do have a food scale and I use it sometimes, but I should probably use it more often I thought it was just a day at first and I was like okay, just start again tomorrow. Nope, it wasn't just one day. This time last year was when I gained all the weight and I really don't have the wiggle room to gain now. I'm still struggling to lose last years weight.0

Have you considered taking a break?
Rather than trying to lose more weight right now, eat at your maintenance calorie amount and see if you feel better. Give it a month or so and then you may be ready to go back to losing again.0 -
You have a 2000 calorie goal, it should be plenty doable. Focus on eating more protein and fiber to keep you full longer, get rid of any junk food or other carb triggers in your house, and realize that everyday you start over and can do better!0

I don't follow the goal mfp gave me because I gain weight or maintain. I have to eat at most 1800 to lose weight, but 1600 is a better pace.0

I did think about taking a break, but my birthday is coming up and my original goal was to reach it by then. However I don't see that happening, but I would like to lose a little more.0

I've noticed that, for me, there are some foods that I can't really control myself around (like animal cookies), and if I eat them then I end up eating everything else, too, because it's like they enhance my appetite. Is there something that seems that way for you? If so, try keeping that food out of your diet for a week or so and see if you're able to get back on track.0

Probably too many carbs, which stimulates hunger. Cut carbs below 100 and maintain calorie deficit.0

Try planning your meals in advance and entering them in the day before to see if that helps and stick to the calorie total set by MFP. I find if I have my meals for the day pre-logged then I'm less likely to eat more because I can see the calorie total for the day and see that an extra treat or a change will put me over my goal for the day. For some reason seeing that total in there already really seems to help me stop as I then don't want to add more calories to the day!0

Okay thanks everyone, I'm gonna try increasing my protein and pre-planning my days. I really hope I can get back on track, my confidence gets better with every pound I lose and I don't want that to stop0

This! Myself, I was starting to feel out of control with my intake and suddenly never enough. So I put myself on maintenance. With all this available calories, I find it much easier to eat less. Does it make sense? Not really, but now I'm able to leave two hundred calories at the end of the days instead of going over all the time.
I'd suggest taking a break for maintenance, too.0 -
It happens a lot to many people. You were doing fine, then you start by allowing yourself an extra bite of this or that and before you know you it you are packing up calories and feeling uneasy about cutting back. The trick is to catch it before it turns into weight gain.
Have you been stressed lately? Has something changed in your life? Exams, new job, new house, personal issues..etc. Sometimes eating can be a way to compensate for lack of control or to "medicate" during stressful situations. Other times you simply feel too confident and too in control that you allow yourself a few slip ups that keep accumulating. Maybe you just lost interest because something else has taken over your interest.
Try to recognize your emotional triggers and deal with them appropriately in a way that doesn't involve food, and try to keep yourself interested by constantly introducing new goals and ideas. Sometimes controlling weight successfully involves more than protein and fiber. You may actually need to take a break from dieting, eating at maintenance while you sort out your issues however long it takes. Postponing weight loss is better than re-losing gained weight, because adding another stress source (dieting) may not be the best course of action and may lead to opposite results.0 -
I had a bad day yesterday and felt like I was starving. Ate three cups of cheerios without milk then was fine... fasted for my regular 16 hours. Maybe I wasnt getting enough nutrition in my diet because I like to make room for a large snack everyday. I know now to make better choices and will only snack a few times a week then wind it down to none.0
