Will dancing make you lose weight?

Hi, I am a newbie here who want to lose 12kg to make it to a healthier BMI range for my height.
I have been practising dance for an anime called Love Live! from Japan. I watch the live videos trailer as well as the dance mirror videos for individual songs and dance together with them for at least 30 minutes and rest for 5-10 minutes before I continues for approximately 3-4 times a week.
Here is the sample of the type of videos I used which has 3 part or 17 minutes for those single full-length video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AsuUdPNpvNk, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eTItwESQAnc (a single dance mirror which I start from 10:02 as it starts from there for the full version for the dance based on an overall characters) and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UH_3DXfsU7g (another single dance mirror).
There is a time that I feel stomach empty with just 2-3 hours apart from my last meal after one hour of dance practice. Is it normal? I usually only drink a packet of Milo or just a small packet of biscuits such as Hello Panda and it usually can lasts till my next meal. Is it okay for me to do that? If not, what should I do instead as it always happened if I dance? In this pace, will it help to lose weight or ends up gaining more weight?

Oh really? But what will be consider as a proper diet? It is a lot type of diet plan on the net and it is confusing. Shall I measure the calories lose to prevent gaining back the calories lose. Currently I am not using any device to track that part.0 -
Well I would say those hello panda biscuits or snacking other candies won't do any good. Counting calories might help you but keep in your mind 500 cals from a chocolate muffin has different nutrition value than 500 cals from fish with some potatoes and vegetable.0

But just one packet also can't? I don't eat snack in between unless it is really needed. I don't have much snacks for me to choose as I don't buy them usually. What about baked cashew nuts from Natural wonders? Will it be better?0 -
The easiest way really is to just track calories you're right, one packet wont hurt. But 'just one packet' too often might. And as @19gabriela01 said there's more benefit to 500 cals from nutritional foods like fish and vegetables than from a muffin.
The best way to make sure you're eating right is to just stick to the calories that MFP has given you, and log accurately That way you can still have those biscuits, you just have to allow for them in what you eat for the rest of the day
Edited to add: Cashews can be a great snack (source of good fats, protein and fibre) but be careful to weigh them out as they're very high in calories, making it easy to underestimate how much you're actually eating.0 -
id love to know the answer to this because i love dancing too.but i guess the best way is to try and dance for a few weekz and see if you get the results.when i was younger i would dance daily and despite a unhealthy diet ..i managed a healthy weight.0

Thanks for the advice. I see. Like today, I actually take one packet and drink plain water to replenish water as I sweat a lot during the dance practice. I didn't have more to take even if I want. ^^" I will try to stick to the MFP has given me despite the fact that I has been taking meals outside due to school and part-time job.
I used to measure them and took them according to the one serving guide on the packet itself. I can use back that small weighting machine for the nuts I will be taking as replacement of titbits.0 -

I will want too~ I love dancing since I was a child but kind of stop it due to uncomfortable with performances in front of people. Now I am picking them back due to the recent interest on the dances for this anime. ^v^ Hope it does make a differences to my life. Let's work hard together~0 -

I'm a former dance teacher. All the new students would be thrilled for the first few weeks because they were losing weight without dieting, but two or three months later they would be despondent when the weight loss stopped. I would tell them to start taking their measurements once a month. They always lost inches even though they weren't losing weight, because they were losing fat and gaining muscle. A cubic inch of muscle weights more than a cubic inch of fat.0

Oh I see. If looking out for both the diet and dance, will it help in losing the weight and fat mass at the same time? I am taking all meals outside due to school and part-time work so hard to calculate how much calories I have been taking in as it is based on how much salt, oil and sugar the hawker used and it varies for all hawkers. Taking measurement once a month? Is it enough? What about once a week?0 -

Dancing is so wonderful! I'm glad it pleases you I like bellydance recently, but never in front of strangers, lol.
Do you like soymilk? Or cashew or almond milk? Even cow's milk? That's a great snack that helps with energy for dance and has protein to keep hunger away. We have snack boxes of milk that don't need to be kept cold, so if you have those you can take them with you easily, too. You might need more than one box if you get the small boxes that we have (packaged for children). Two would be great. Good luck!0 -

I love cow and goat milk the most. I kind of scared of the taste of Soy since I was a child. I prefer hot drink over cold drink or packet drink therefore I usually get powdered form instead. Due to some circumstances, I am drinking milo instead of Milk. Is that okay or milk will be a better option over it?
I had to look it up, but apparently milo has too much sugar (and calories). If they have a sugar-free or diet milo that is made with milk, that might be good. But I would avoid the regular kind. Milk would be better.
A big latte or cappuccino would be nice if you like hot drinks and enjoy coffee. Just don't get the sugary kind Too many calories!

You can measure once a week if you like. I told my students once a month just so they would see bigger numbers when they did measure, and so they would stop focusing so much on the scales. It worked for most of them, but I had one student who was so adamant she couldn't be losing that many inches with no weight loss, so I had to start measuring her just to prove she wasn't doing it wrong.

I see. True for that. It will be a bigger different hence not focusing on the measurement sound good. It might bring down the hope if too close. I usually just weigh once a day in the morning and recorded it down. For measurement, I am looking at the guide provided on the web instead. ^^" Hope I get it correct too~

When I wasn't teaching students I was practicing for competitions & exhibitions. The best pro I knew worked out 4 hours each morning - running, swimming, yoga, and aerobics - then went to her studio in the afternoons for 8 hours to work on routines and teach students.0

As I am still a full-time student and part-time dental assistant, my school days are usually packed with homework and assignments on weekdays and job for weekends. If I only dance like 2-3 times a week for these busy period with controlling of diets, is it okay? For now, I am enjoying my semester break till end of Oct therefore I have the time for daily or more dance practice. But once school reopens, the schedules will be in a mess again. Is there any advice for it? I still can dance but not as often as now.0 -
Eating at a deficit will make you lose weight. Dancing will make you happy and probably ward off dementia.0

^What she said. Nutrition is key. I mix in dancing with my other workouts but I have noticed the most progress is made when you eat right.0

This is doubtful. When one says one loses weight by eating less, that means to eat less overall. One can lose weight on poor nutrition. One can gain weight on a nutritionally excellent diet. The bottom line about weight loss is calories in/calories out.
However, if you ware well nourished, you probably feel pretty darned good and are able to fully participate in your daily activities, which for many of us includes exercise.
