Bethany, most national chains have their nutritional information online, I would check that before I went to a restaurant.

In the event the restaurant doesn't have nutritional information available, I suggest keeping your food choices simple, i.e. a __ ounce steak with a side of broccoli and rice / veggies and estimate the amounts the best you can. The more "complicated" the meal you get--various unknown sauces / oils / ingredients, the less you can accurately track. You can ask the server to go light on these things, but there's no way knowing if the message was received and how much of what was used! good luck
