How many steps are in a mile?

I have been using a proform pedometer and it seems off, right now I have 5165 steps and it says that is 1.96 miles. Is this correct? I was just wondering if anyone can tell me how many steps are in a mile, and how to accurately measure my stride length.

    there is about 2000 steps in a mile....give or take depending on step size

    I have heard about 2500 is a mile. :)

    Between 2,000 - 2,500 steps in a mile depending on your stride. I'm short (5'4") and I'm still closer to 2,000.

    Well, mine for today says... 10440 steps, and 3.29 miles. I have no clue the average step per mile.

    The average stride of a human in 30" (2'6"). There are 5280 feet in a mile, therefore there are 2112 steps in a mile...:-}

    According to my pedometer, there are 2700 steps in a mile.

    It varies on how tall you are but as it is said before, the closest estimate is 2000-2500 steps per mile
