How often do you update your goals?

My idea for my "goal weight" has changed a couple times, and when trying to change that for my profile I've noticed that each time I update it my daily calorie goal changes. Duh! Because my weight has changed. *facepalm*

So that led me to wonder, how often do you update your goals to reflect your new weight? Every 10lbs, every 5lbs, every new weigh-in, never?

This time around it changed my daily calorie goal by 30cal, which isn't a lot, but seeing 1450 looked better to my eye than seeing 1420 haha. While more accurate, it's a little disrupting to see a lower number in my daily calorie goal. Do you find changing this as you go helps or just unsettles you?

I haven't changed anything yet. Same everything as 35 lbs ago. It's all still working so I go with it.

Re: goals ... I hit my first goal mid-June. I was planning to stop there, but that little "In 5 weeks ... " message told me I could be a weight I hadn't seen since about 2008. Really? Well, I guess if I could reach my first goal, I could reach that one. How cool would that be! So I set my second goal at that number with the intent of possibly reaching it by the end of September. I was there by the end of August, and that little "In 5 weeks ..." message was suggesting a weight I haven't seen since about 2005. So I set my third goal at that number with the intent of reaching it by the end of September. At the end of September, I realised I had gone past that goal by about half a kilogram. Now that little "In 5 weeks ..." message is suggesting a weight I haven't seen since 2003, when I was my fittest. So that's my newest goal, and maybe I might hit it by the end of October. We'll see.

Re: calories ... when I first started with MFP, MFP put me at 1250 cal. That was OK ... just. Within about 6 weeks, MFP dropped me to 1200 cal. I tried that for a week, and just couldn't sustain it. It's not much, but I needed those extra 50 cal. So I manually adjusted it back to 1250 cal. ... and lost the weight just fine.

I took a break in June/July for about a month, and when I returned, I set myself at 1450 cal for about a week, to ease back into it again. Then dropped it to 1400 cal for about a week. Then dropped it to 1350 cal. I might drop it to 1300 cal mid-October. I'll see how things go over the next couple weeks.

I have changed mine higher and then lower. I was having a difficult time in July/August because of vacation followed by an injury. I had to cut down on my exercise while I healed. I found it very difficult to be content on 1200 calories without much or any exercise to add for my net. I bumped mine up for a few weeks. When I could resume my exercise routine, I lowered it back down. I maintained or had small losses for a while. As I have continued to lose my weekly total losses have necessarily decreased. I am very happy with my overall progress.

I lose about 10 calories every 2-3# lost, so I update my fitness profile once a month.

Yeah, I'm definitely finding it's harder to keep the calories when I can't move as much from my injury as well :/ It's good to know you figured it all out though :)

I had no idea it does that! I guess I haven't waited long enough for it to do that, lol.

If you have it on automatic (or guided, or whatever it is called), it will update every 5 kg or so.

If you have it on manual, you have to update it.

I had it on automatic at first, but then changed it to manual.
