Sober October

So, here we go again, another month to put forth an effort to stay sober. With each month winding down to the years end it will become more difficult for many of us but we're here to support one another. There is no judging here, just support. Glad you decided to join us.
For those of you who don't know me, I've been drinking a bottle of wine a night for about 30 years. Yikes! My husband is my drinking buddy and he drinks the same amount. In August we decided to give it up thinking that maybe someday down the road we'd be able to have a glass or 2 and stop at that. Well, I had 2 slip ups in the last 70 days. Both times I did not stop after a glass or 2 but consumed the whole bottle. As we age, I'm sure the damage from our poisoned livers will catch up with one or both of us. It has to stop now. So, here we go again. . .

-
I'm in. Day 34 AF for me. I'm scheduled for a wine tasting tour sometime in Oct so I'll have a blip but being AF for Sept really helped me feel better overall.0

That great,, all of you doing that. I am a drinker, staying a drinker. Love my wine!0

After being a nightly wine drinker (2-4 glasses a night), I started in dry July and felt great. I continued in August and September having only 2 slips in each month. I feel so much healthier. My skin and overall appearance look better, and I wake up refreshed every day! I am in for October for sure!0

@mandylou A lot of the MFP's here, myself included swear by Sparkling Water to get through the night
@TacoTina Not sure who Bill W is but I'm sure he's happy to be considered your friend. Of course you're welcome to join us. Perhaps you can share your experience and how you were able to get it under control.0 -
I am in. I've been bad every weekend for the last 4 months! It is getting out of hand and I need some accountability!0

So, here it is, Monday the 5th of October. Did everyone make it through the weekend sober? It's a little scary when you don't see any posts for a few days.
I did well. Hope you all did too0 -
I made it! Made it through birthdays and a BBQ and feeling fantastic about that0
-
Too late to join? Two weeks ago I decided to stop drinking while I train for a Tough Mudder on Nov. 8, still holding strong on that.0

I'm trying to stick to alcohol only on Friday and Saturday nights...0
-
I did it! Yay! Hope everyone had a great weekend!0
-
Yep still alcohol free here0

I am in! I am not drinking until Halloween. I used to drink every single weekend and always felt like crap the next day. I just started this journey so anyone who has been through this and can give tips is greatly appreciated. Do you lose weight faster if you don't drink?0

I lurk on this thread because I enjoy reading about it (everyone here is impressive!) but you might want to join the thread "no alcohol on a weekday" - I am the same way, trying to limit to Friday and Saturday only. Not willing to cut it out completely!0 -
Happy Monday all... Having LA croix berry sparkling water tonight.0
-
Having a not so great week. Will be out of town for a week starting tomorrow. Will try to set limits but don't think it'll be AF. Will need to regroup on the 11th.0

The joy of going af is most apparent in the morning.. I wake up at 500 for work and love feeling refreshed rather than hazy or queezy.0

I found this thread just after having a conversation with my boyfriend about giving up alcohol for a period of time. We've challenged each other to no alcohol until his birthday (Veteran's Day). Every time I've taken an extended step away, it's started with a small challenge. It's not that I drink a lot - I have maybe 2-3 beers on the weekend, and that's it. It's more that I realize how crummy I feel when I do drink any amount of alcohol. Clean living just feels better.
Celebrate the small victories - two slips in 70 days is nothing to beat yourself up over. I applaud your hard work and success for the other 68 days That's a 97% average, and that's outstanding!0 -
AF 11 days and feeling good. Sleeping well, eating well and feeling less stressed..0

Omg I am so in. I'm right there with the original poster. Aborted of wine every night is ME. I'm the mother of two toddlers so when they go to bed, momma cuts loose. Helps me to wind down after chasing them all day to sit down and drink wine and watch NCIS. But the calories are KILLIN me y'all!!!! I could really use the support!!!!0
