Which to believe?

So earlier this evening, I was trying out the used treadmill my husband got me as an early birthday present. I had my HRM (which tracks calories, heart rate, miles per hour, and distance) on my wrist and was just having a blast walking while watching MythBusters. (Treadmill is located in our bedroom.) Well, at one point, I checked my watch and it said I was going 4.0mph, but the treadmill said 2.2 --- which one should you really believe?? Maybe that's a stupid question, but I don't know...

  • I would think the treadmill would be more accurate as it has a physical spedometer, while your watch is making assumptions through some heart rate or pedometer mechanism to estimate how fast you're going.

I was going to ask the same question, I have a pedometer and it stated I lost 224.1 calories but when I punch in the numbers on MFP, it stated I lost 459 calories?????, which one do you believe?????

I agree, the treadmill. Some pedometers have to be calibrated to your stride length in order to give a proper MPH reading.
  • @mzhunnie, a heart rate monitor would be a more accurate estimator of you calorie expenditure if you have it all set up with your weight and age, etc. Both things you mentioned are estimating. You could average the two numbers together and call it 300 and something...
