The About Me of my profile:
Weight hasn't really been a main component of my life until recently. I never thought I was overweight, and I guess according to health statistics I wasn't, but I was never too thrilled about my body. About six months ago, my mom started the HCG diet which influenced my decision to start. I thought I could lose a couple of pounds to make myself more confident. I'm 5'5'' and started at about 125-130 pounds, and eventually dropped to my all-time low of 109 pounds due to the diet. I was happy with my new slim body, but I was completely miserable. I worried about my weight way too much, what i ate, how much, etc. With the HCG diet came extreme restrictions, and once I began to reintroduce certain elements back into my diet (even healthy ones like whole grains) I gained a LOT of it back. Then came the revelation: I can't live on the HCG diet. Losing that much weight that fast is not normal, or even healthy. That is when I decided I needed to incorporate more healthy foods like veggies, fruits, and whole grains into my life and make healthier decisions. I'm starting to exercise regularly, and I've definitely noticed a difference. Overall, I started using the myfitnesspal application when I started phase 3 of my HCG diet and never really looked at the website or try to find friends. But now I realize that a supporting community online is perfect for my healthy habits. Currently, I am at about 113 pounds and have never felt so good about my body, even at 109 pounds, because I know I am accomplishing my goals in a healthy way.
Anyone else have the same revelation after going through a torturous "fad diet" ?? Any tips, suggestions, etc on living a healthy life for a newbie??

Welcome to MFP first off. You have a great attitude and I think you'll find many like minded peeps here to encourage you to stay healthy. Personally, I have always mixed my diet plans. A little Atkins, South beach, (love the recipe book) and weight watchers. I like lots of options. Not sure this answers your question but I thought I'd share anyway. p.s. I lost 20 lbs. About 5 yrs ago, kept it off for 3 and have slowly packed it back on for the last 2. My #1 goal is to get healthy including getting fit. I have a carb problem at the moment- so if you care to share any recipes you loved send them my way please.
