Goal weight?

Hello..
do you ever wonder what goal weight to achieve?
Based on what do you set your goal weight?

    I had a goal weight in mind. But as I get closer to it I realise that its not just hard to hit it but my body is changing in other ways. For example, I building more muscle now and even though my clothes have been getting looser my weight hasn't really moved as much as I though. So I think the BF% is what has been dropping which is really good.

    Set smaller short term goals and as time goes on and you reach them re evaluate your goal and set a new one. What you thought of as your goal in the beginning may change as you go through the journey.

    I agree with Gavin. I realize that the number isn't nearly as important as how I look and how great I feel in my skin. My Original goal was to lose close to 40lbs. In reality I will probably start to work on maintenance around a 30lb loss.

    I have a goal weight based on how I felt at a particular weight range in the past.

    More than that, though, I'm basing my goal weight on the lifestyle I want maintain. I would love to get to 120 but that would require a stricter diet and a decrease in alcohol. I don't want to sacrifice those things so my goal weight is higher.

    Gavin & Nattyschmatty you have got a point..
    What really made decide to start losing weight is that i want to wear whatever i want and look nice in it.. so how my clothes fit will be an important factor :)

    According to the weight loss charts my goal weight should be about 20-30 lbs less than what I have my goal weight as, but I want something that is achievable, maintainable and that I will feel good at so I have it slightly higher.

    I'm old - I just can't even imagine getting down to less than what I weighed in HS. My Mom is tiny and several inches shorter than me and has health issues and doesn't eat enough - the charts say I should weigh about what she weighs. Not gonna happen and I'm okay with that. I want to enjoy my life instead of spending 100% of my time worrying about my weight.

    I am 62 and sometimes it seems impossible to do anything but maintain my weight which is better than gaining or being a yo you. Recently my mom who is 83 this week lost 20 lbs and she is old and sedentary so I figure if she can do it than I should give it another chance. I work out about 4 times a week and watch what I eat but as you know it's really easy to eat good but eat too much! So I would appreciate all the encouragement I can get and I will commit to tracking what I put in my mouth!!

    Although I didn't think a number on a scale is an ideal goal to have.... I want to be 130 again.

    5'7" female with a small-medium bone structure.

    You can add me if you like. I am the same height as you and my goal is 133. Haven't seen that number in years, but in high school I weighed 120 and it was a very good weight for me. Now I'm 54 and aiming for 133. In truth i would be thrilled to see 145. Right now I'm at 181.8lbs down from 190.lbs on September 25th. That is the day I got serious.

    I originally had my goal weight to set 115 lbs (I'm 5'2 so quite short).

    Once I hit 125, I realised that I'm a nice 'weight', I literally just need to build muscle so the definition shows. Losing more weight wasn't going to give me the body I wanted. I'm now maintaining at 25 and focusing on what the mirror shows, not what the scales say! :)

    I have a rough goal based on my ideal weight for my height - which would mean loosing 28lbs - I plan to use that as a number to work towards but imagine that will change, as after loosing the bulk of it, will probably want to tone up more rather than loose more.

    My goal weight is set based on my past weight. When I was younger and very fit I weighed about 140 lbs. I want to get back there.

    I am guessing I may have to shoot a bit past that mark since I don't have the same muscle mass of 20 years ago.
