Hypothyrodism.....

So how does one loose weight when something not letting them (like your thyroid) I "try" and eat right I excerise everyday i'm at the health club at least 6 days out of the week, do my 30 day shred everday faithfully, but ot seems like the scale is afraid to move..........anyone else outthere going through this!

    I suffer with this. Didn't realise what the problem was for ages and kept going to the doctors but my mum eventually made me demand blood tests!! (She's suffers with it too) I'd tried every diet going and nothing worked, my weight just kept increasing!

    I'm now on 75mg of Levothyroxine a day, forever!! I've lost 18lb since the end of Feb so it's definitely helping!!

    Are you on medication/seen a doctor??
  • I'm on Synthroid, too. I've been on it since 2000 and I've never had any obstacles to losing weight, except for myself (lol)! If you're not already on meds, and haven't been "diagnosed" with it, then I would for sure go see your doctor for a blood test and he/she will put you on something (usually Synthroid/Levothyroxine). It takes a bit to get in your "system" and level yourself out, but you'll get there!

    Don't get discouraged, as this is fixable!! Keep up the great work!

    I also have a thyroid problem and find it very hard to lose weight. I notice that for me to actually lose and not maintain weight I need to workout more then the recommended amount of time and eat a little less calories. Also you have to make sure your levels are correct and that you are taking the right medication.

    I was told by my doc last month, my lil sis has it and I just found out by my mom the a few of her aunts has it and ond had Grave's disease, i'm on meds just mad 30 days the other day so i'm guessing they aren't in my system yet, I knew somethiing was wrong but didn't know what, I think i may have had it for a long time and just didn't know it............kind of wondered why i'm the biggest out of my WHOLE family everyone is thin and have all these strange things going on, anyway I hope the meds do help by the way i'm on 50 mg of Levothyroxine not sure if that's my correct dosage yet it's my 1st one I go back to the doc in July!

    They started me on 50mg and I had to go for a blood test 6/8 weeks later. That was when they upped it to 75mg. Hope you get sorted!! My tiredness thing is much better now but after reading a few threads on here, i'm still not sure if i'm on the right meds. You put your trust in doctors and i sometimes wonder if we should!!

    We are in the same boat! It takes us alot longer than everyone else, but it does happen. Slow and steady wins this race. We are about the same height and starting weight. I run my cals between 1200 and 1400 and workout about an hour a day or every other day. In our case I would say to eat healthy and exercise continually just because it feels good to do so and the progress will come. With us, we cannot afford to let ourselves become frustrated. It's a long haul, but we will get there. I am sending you a friend request so that we can support each other.

    I have hypothyroid as well. I have been on meds for 13 years. If you just started the meds it takes 4-6 weeks for your body to adjust so give it a little time. If you have been on them for a while and still dont feel right have your doctor check you blood TSH again. Once you are on the right dosage you won't have any trouble losing weight as far as the thyroid goes. Also talk to your doctor about the type of meds your taking. For the longest time my doctors couldn't get my level right and so they sent me to a specialist, endocrinologist, and he told me DO NOT take The generic version only Synthroid! Once I was switched over I have not had a problem since. Also make sure you are taking the meds on an empty stomach, it makes a difference! Hope you can figure it out, good luck!

    It might take them a little time to get your dosage right. Once you go back and have the blood work done again they mint have to increase so that could be a definite factor to your weight loss. I was in the same boat as you, I had had it for a long time and was extremely sick once I was finally diagnosed. Once you get those meds in you, it will make the world of difference!!

    Like others have said, are you on medication? I use a natural supplement to get my numbers in normal range, and although it has seemed to be a little harder, I've lost the weigh I needed to. I'm pretty much at my goal weight even though I'd like to lower my fat percentage a little. You may indeed need to workout a little harder and cut your calories a little more, but remember if you are working say twice as much then you'd actually be in the position of eating a little more than you do now. 30 day shred might not be intense enough, or enough in terms of how much time you spend doing it. There are quite a few people here with hypothyroid, including several of my friends, and the formula for losing weight seems to be more intense exercise, at least 5-6 days a week, and a further reduction in caloric intake. For example, with the built in deficit here at MFP to lose a pound a week, adding the average workout each day, my calorie intake should have been about 2400 calories to lose 1 pound per week. But, after trial and error I found my sweet spot to be about 1900 calories. So a 1000 calorie deficit worked for me. I eat very clean and had no problem feeling full throughout the day despite how hard I worked out, and even if I went over that by 100-200 calories I still lost weight. It took me over a year but I'm at about 45 pounds lost. I used mostly P90X and Insanity with some biking and running peppered in there. Some weekends it would not be unusual for me to burn 3000+ calories. Hard work but that's what it took.

    I have hypothyroidism, insulin resistance, pcos & fibromyalgia so totally know what you mean - my body is totally built to put weight on & keep it there. I have been losing weight, all be it slowly, but you can get there. Definitely agree with everyone about being on meds? They should help to bring your numbers to normal which in turn will help you lose weight.
