Ok so needless to say I'm an absolute noob but I have what might be a dumb question, can I do weight training without weights?

I'm not ready to walk into a gym yet, and I wouldn't know which weights to buy but I really want to build/maintain some muscle while I lose weight. I guess I'm a bit lost as to what exactly weight training is, for example is a push up considered weight training?

Please help I don't know where to start!

It is called bodyweight training. You use the weight of your body as resistance and use progressive overload through increasing difficulty of the exercises. A push up is definetly part of bodyweight training. It's a great option without equipment. (Although you might want to look into a pullup bar if going to a nearby playground is not an option)

    Good programs are:
    You are your own gym
    Body by you
    Convict conditioning
    Nerdfitness beginner bodyweight routine

Just google those, see what tou like best. Some are online and free, others are books and some have apps.
