That Day-After Soreness

Hey y'all, so I did my very first round of TRX yesterday, woke up this morning with my whole body screaming (Super exciting because I haven't felt that sweet sweet burn for a long time)

I am supposed to go for another TRX session in a few days, and I want to do cardio in the meantime, but the pain is pretty intense, and I have a pretty low thresh-hold for pain. If you were going to call me something, it would start with an "P" and end in a "Y".

Does anyone have any advice on how to overcome. Is it a grit-your-teeth-and-bare-it, sort of situation, or is there a trick someone has come across to help with this?

I finally have found something I love doing, and TRX is it. It's hard, and it busts my butt, and I feel like I accomplished something after every new exercise. But my body, she is rebelling!

Thanks!

Movement helps with soreness. Light cardio will benefit your muscles as it warms them up. But you won't benefit if your muscles are TOO sore that your running suffers, so I suggest lightly jogging and seeing how you feel about continuing with a full run (or whatever your cardio preference is). Good luck!
  • Thanks! It's good advice, someone just mentioned Vit C too :)

I think it all depends on how sore you are.
Sometimes doing light cardio the day after can help, but in some rare occasion for me the day after was too soon and my muscles needed rest. So if you feel really unable today, there is always tomorrow.

You could also search youtube for recovery yoga. Lots of stretching which I really like with sore muscles.

    Lots of threads about this.

Stretching, warm baths, light cardio, massage, hydration. Ease up if you hurt two days after exercise.

There, I summed up about 20 threads for you. :-)

    Enjoy the burn!

Epsom salt hot baths (the salts with the lavender is esp nice) and Advil. That's what I use when I'm very sore.
Well done on doing TRX. I'd like to try that eventually :)

Foam rolling helps too, but it can be a bit uncomfortable at first. Doing that then taking an Epsom salt bath is relaxing.

It's called DOMS. Your body is rebuilding not rebelling.

    -- drink lots of water
-- do some light exercise, like walking or a casual bicycle ride
    -- hot bath or shower
-- stretching after or during hot bath or shower
-- some suggest making sure you're consuming a decent amount of protein

You already got some great input. I find that once I stop moving I feel even worse, so I think continuing to move around and stretch is best. I wanted to do a cardio day after tearing myself up but I just couldn't. I went for a long walk instead and felt a lot better because it warmed me up and kept everything feeling looser.

    I'm curious about Trx too.

Friday was a BIG day in the gym for me. I did leg press, pec fly and deadlift in the morning. Then back in the evening to do some core work plus cardio. I hit it all pretty hard too, should have eased off on the intensity perhaps...
Needless to say I was feeling pretty sore yesterday plus still had achey triceps from Thursday's arm day... I was feeling VERY sorry for myself.
So I walked a lot yesterday! Every time I sat down or rested I seized up again so I was happiest when I was walking about. Today I am still a bit sore so I began my day with a swim and now just making sure I drink a lot. Hope you feel better soon! x

Compression tights help me with my recovery as well as the other great advice mentioned above.
