My first time at a gym I was on campus and my school has an AMAZING gym so I was there for a while testing out stuff. Didn't stay on any machine for longer than 10 minutes, but I was probably there about an hour just seeing how some of the machines worked.0

My very first time at the gym I spent 15 minutes on the elliptical and I absolutely thought I was going to die. I had never worked out before in my life until I was 19.0

Doesn't matter how long we worked out. What's important is that you work out for as long as you can. Don't be afraid to push yourself. The first time I tried the eliptical I could only do 5 minutes. I tried that torture device twice and haven't been back on it since. I moved to the treadmill and walked for 25 minutes at a moderate pace, but fast enough that i could get my heart rate up. I also did 40 minutes of weight lifting. I weighed 286 lbs at the time.
It's all relative. I do a lot of walking at work so I was used to that motion. If you're not, just do what you can the first time. Nobody is keeping track, nobody is watching you, they're all focused on their own workout. And if they do notice you, the only thing they're thinking is "Hey cool for her, for committing to a healthy lifestyel" People who are fit want nothing more than for everyone else to become addicted to exercising too.
Go in there and kick some butt. With consistency, you'll see some amazing results. Good luck! and keep us updated. I know you can do it! You are strong, you'll see.0 -
If you've never been or you're just getting back into it I suggest taking it slow and don't try to over-do yourself. Definitely get in some cardio, maybe walk on the tredmill on a small incline and get on the bike and/or elliptical. Try for 10 minutes or so on each one, then after just try out some of the strength training stuff like lifting some light dumbbells or some light leg presses0

My first time at the gym I spent 3 hours there, 1 hour on the cardio machines the other 1 1/2 learning all the strenght machines and the last 30 minutes talking to the guy that worked there0

Thanks so much. I did 10 mins on the elliptical and thought my legs were gonna fall off, but I really liked the whole body workout of it. Then I moved to the bike, but bc of my "jelly legs", I only did 5 mins. Didn't even want to go back today, but I'm GONNA! Think I'm gonna stick to the treadmill for a while.0 -
I just wanted to share that ONE of my first days back at the gym in 5+ years, weighing around 240 lbs I FAINTED! So embarrassing!:embarassed:0

When I first started at the gym I could only do 2.5 minutes on the elliptical - it's taken me 2 months to get up to 12 minutes!! So you did GREAT! Don't overdo it - just do what you can - it's not a competition with anyone else. I started doing 6 mins on the bike 2.5 minutes on the eliptical and 10 minutes walking and then after a week I added some weights in. Just do what feels good and don't force yourself to go if you dont want to - it's good to do one day on, one day off and listen to some loud music and just enjoy yourself if you force yourself then you will lose enthusiasm! WELL DONE0
