No you don't. You can lose all the weight you want by reducing calories.0 -
^ Swimming is great if you have access to a pool.
Something else to consider - rebounding. Very low impact, but it requires equipment.
Chair workouts - not sure how challenging they are:

Try yoga as well. You won't burn as much, but it's still good for you.0

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I do not have access to a pool. I wish I did because I love water aerobics. I am doing some biking and just pushing past the boredom. I am cutting back on some calories more so that will help. I am also doing more upper body strength training too.0

I will add my voice to not needing cardio to lose weight. It can be done with a tight diet all by itself. The only reason people exercise is to burn extra calories so they can eat a little more, or to make the weight loss go a little faster. If you like, you could look up some low impact cardio YouTube videos and adapt them to whatever you can do. Also, I just typed this into google:
how to exercise with a bad ankle
And it turned up a bunch of results!0 -
You don't need cardio to lose weight. It's mostly diet. Cut your carbs below 100, and reduce calories. Whala - you be thin!0

If you can bike, you can row.0

Personally I exercise because I enjoy it, and it helps me to deal with depression.
I eat back most of what I burn off.0 -

There is no reason to give yourself a carb limit unless it is a diet preference. As long as you consume your minimum values of protein and fat in a day, you can fill the remaining calories in any way you want.
For weightloss, the amount of calories matter, not if they come from carbs, protein or fat.0 -

Not at all - my training sessions are not really about weight loss at all. I do strength training to build and maintain muscle so I can ultimately have a toned body, and so that I have the muscles to do the things I enjoy. I do cardio (HIIT rather) to build up heart health and endurance.
Neither is directly tied to weight loss, but they're both important to me for my overall health and fitness, of which weight is only one (obviously critical) component.
My goal in 2017 is to climb Kilimanjaro. Weight loss clearly isn't the only thing I should work on to achieve that goal.0 -
Geez a lot of people saying she doesn't need cardio to lose weight. Maybe she wants to eat a reasonable amount?? Without exercise I am
Stuck with 1200 for less than half a lb weekly loss. No thanks. I NEED that exercise to eat like a normal person. Good luck op!!0 -

Maybe try some low/no impact circuit style exercises using upper body exercises: push-ups, chest presses, dips, medicine ball slams, dips, pull ups, incline rows, dumbbell rows, planks, leg raises, etc. Also, I'm not sure but depending on your ankle injury maybe you could add in body weight squats extending your arms over your head as you come out of the squat, stationary lunges, chops. Even just standing stationary abs braced and doing a circuit of upper cuts, jabs, etc using body only or light Dumbbells or resistance bands can get your heart rate up and give you a cardio workout. Go for time or sets and reps.0

When I read this I thought huh? I don't exercise for weight loss, I do it because I want to be strong and toned and have a healthy heart. Also the CDC and the NIH and just about every medical organization believes we need to move our bodies at a moderate intensity for at least 150 minutes a week, more if you've ever been obese. Strength training prevents injury and helps retain bone mass. I also workout because I don't want to get cancer, so may cancers are related to inactivity.
And let's not forget the endorphins, I literally get a runners high after about a mile, I'm sort of addicted to that good feeling, keeps me sane and helps me to keep stress at bay.
Geeze there are so many reason I love working out. Weight loss is an added benefit.0 -
