Hi everyone,
I have been walking/hiking for about 1-2 hours a day lately. Is that good enough exercise to lose weight, or should I be do something else as well? I have access to a gym, but find it rather boring. Love the outdoors.
Thanks bunches for any and all input..good luck on everyones journey!

Walking is great exercise for you and for your heart! Generally, you'll want to have some higher intensity days, but if you enjoy walking then that can absolutely be your workout. Just be sure you're watching what you eat, and you should lose weight just fine!

Apart from some strength training exercises (that I do at home), walking has been my exercise and I've lost 49 lbs so far. I do work on building up speed to ensure I keep challenging myself, but I love my walking!

Walking is a great, low-impact way to burn calories, which will of course help with weight loss. However, it's not going to do a lot for fat loss, so if that's what you hope to achieve, you'll need to add in some strength training as well.

I agree about finding the gym boring! When the weather is fine I'm all about the outdoors. Do you ever do intensity intervals? That and varying the routes is plenty of good cardio.

I've been doing the same and have lost weight. I prefer to be outdoors- and spend my time with my dog- than be in a stuffy gym!

This is really really encouraging to hear. I too find that the only thing I can stick to when it comes to "working out" is walking. Everything else I've become way too good at finding excuses not to do them... But I can just about always convince myself to go on an hour walk. It is important to vary your route though, so you're body isn't used to the same paths, hills, etc. And I would like to integrate strength training as it makes sense that together with walking this would be best for fat burning and muscle building.
