The most important thing is to eat enough to keep up your milk supply. I've generally seen 1800 calories as the absolute bare minimum. I personally am targeting about 2300 calories per day and eating a bit extra on more active days (I wear a fitness tracker). I've only really been doing this properly for about a week and a half though. I have seen a little bit of an impact to my milk supply but nothing severe. I am set to lose 1 lb/week with those numbers.

How old is your baby? Breastfeeding burns calories. Generally about 300/day by 3 months and tops out around 500/day at 6 months assuming baby is exclusively nursing. Once solids intake goes up and baby starts to drop nursing sessions, it goes to about 250-300 again until baby is weaned.

So far so good. I am averaging about 1750 calories per day and have not seen a drip in supple. I am currently nursing my 19 month twins. I eat a lot and I have found just adding one session (times 2...lol) in my diary helps keep me at a deficit without depriving myself. Nursing can make you hungry at times...lol

This has some good info: http://kellymom.com/nutrition/mothers-diet/mom-weightloss/

I've set mfp for maintenance and let breastfeeding be my deficit. I've lost 12kg, meaning I've lost my baby weight plus 6kg extra! All while eating at maintenance. There are some perks to this parenting gig after all!

I was advised by my lactation consultant and son's pediatrician to go no lower than 2,000 calories/day. I have aimed for 2,500 for "maintenance," and have already seen weight loss in just 2 weeks. My milk supply is more important than the weight loss to me, but that amount seems to be working for now!

I'm positive that nursing is what helped me lose the baby weight both times. I got back down to pre-pregnancy weight each time after gaining 40-45 pounds. Also be sure to drink a lot of water, in fact me nursing is what got me into the habit of drinking water and I have drank a lot of water ever since- and it's been 24 years.

    This and this.
I love Kellymom as a resource.
I also set MFP to maintainance and added my exercise.
I was eating around 2000 calories depending on exercise.

I've been breastfeeding for 7 months and I eat 1300 calories a day to lose weight. I am 5'8 and 224lbs. I have lost 16lbs since I started staying within my calories and I also walk just about every single day. So losing weight while breastfeeding is not impossible. Also I don't feel like I'm starving my body. Oh and you don't need to eat 1800 calories for bare minimum. Everyone is different! Everyone requires different amounts of calories. I make sure I keep up on my water intake too! Do not drink soda! Drinks lots of water! :) good luck!
