Should I still lose 2 lbs per week?

So I am very close to my goal weight (about 7 lbs left) and I have my goal set to 2 lbs per week to lose. I've read many posts saying that once your are close to your goal you should only be losing .5 lbs per week. Why is that and should I change my goal to that?

Way to go on your loss! It should be a half pound a week.0

.5 lbs a week to minimize lean muscle loss0

Slowing your loss can also help transition into maintenance.0

I have 9lbs to go, and changed my goal to .5. Yeah...it will come off slower now, but I've come a long way so I'm staying focused on that. The rest will come. Losing slower now will also will help with moving into maintenance rather than adjusting to one big calorie jump when the time comes.0

Drop it to 0.5 a week :]
You are transitioning to maintenance now. Well done.0 -
It should be 0.5 lbs per week because a larger calorie deficit at nearly goal weight would mean undereating and not fuelling your daily activity.0

Not to mention that if you dial your loss back to .5 and eat at just below maintenance, you have a chance to see if you set your activity level correctly and it works with your near maintenance intake.0
