help gaining weight. add friends.

Hi all I just started this app 6 days ago in hopes to gain a healthy weight. I have suffered pancreatitus a couple months ago with chronic bronchitis and lost about 15 lbs. My goal this app gave me is 1900 cal a day. I am aiming at 3,000 a day. Some days I am way over. This week I gained 1.4 lbs. I am hoping to get to 2 lb a week. I eat all the kinds of foods you can think of with high cal. Whole Avocados, nuts, peanut butter, coconut oil, nutella, muffins, breads, pastas, steak, veggies, chicken, cheese, eggs etc. And I double every meal from what I'm used to eating. I'm literally stuffed! I don't have aw blender at the moment and can't make smoothies. So what else can I do to gain healthy weight in a month or two? Want to get from 106 back to 118 or 120. Am now at 107.4

I would suggest to go at a slower rate. What is the rush?
Crash gaining just like crash dieting does not teach you a sustainable lifestyle. 0.5 to 1 lbs gain a week is plenty.

But if you insist, after filling your micronutrient needs of the day, you can switch to less nutrient high calorie foods like ice cream, bagels, etc. eating more nutrients than you need does not give you bonus points. Forgo all low fat/diet stuff and switch to high fat. Also, drink calories. Full fat milk for example.

why are you doubling every meal?

Just eat in a consistent calorie surplus of 250 to 500 calories….
  • Because my doctor told me to double up on everything.

why don't you try just eating in a consistent caloric surplus of 500 calories over maintenance and gain a pound per week? It sounds like the reason that you are having a hard time getting your calories in is because you are doubling up your meals….

Do you have some kind of medical condition that you have not identified in your OP?
  • I have severe acid reflux which on bad days makes eating hard.

Can your Dr. refer you to a registered dietician? Your insurance should cover almost all the cost, especially if you lost the weight from being sick.

I have a friend that's a registered dietician and she is adamant that they can often advise you more effectively than a general practice Dr. when it comes to food. They're trained to work around disabilities, food intolerances, acid reflux etc.

Hi I'm 5ft 5" and 111lb. My goal is to reach 125lbs. I've actually gained 3lbs in the past 3weeks but I got the flu today and don't have an appetite. Any suggestions to help me continue to meet my calories count?

Hi, I'm 5ft 1 & 84lbs. 2 weeks ago I joined myfitnesspal & in the first 2 weeks I've been gaining weight {for the first time in a very very long time} I know just how frustrating it is to want to gain weight, & I want to gain weight so desperately that I'm rushing... But it's all finally catching up to me. After 2 weeks I've become 90-92lbs. I can't tell you just how uncomfortable I've been feeling for the passed couple days now... It's like all the weight I've been putting on is simply fat & just sitting around my waist - So I feel like a pregnant anoretic! It's horrible, & it's a lesson I guess I needed to learn... You cannot simply rush to your goal weight. At least not without exercise {which I refused to do because I thought I'd only lose any weight I gained}. So if you must rush, do compound exercise every other day

I tried. My doctor simply laughed and said. Nah. You don't need one. Jus

I feel ya girl. This weekend I started getting hit with a flu bug. But I refuse to stay sick so I'm eating as normal no matter what and haven't puked. Just feel lousy. Try protien shakes maybe even gaterade with adding protien powder to it.

I work out several times a week. Walking trails. Stretching. And teaching dance. I just limit it to 15-30 minutes to not burn too many cal. Then I eat after.

I am eating about 1,000 cal over maintenance a day. I do not seem to gain a pound per week. I hardly notice any weight gain at all.

If you are not gaining you are not eating in a caloric surplus. Do you use s food scale to weigh your food??

I'm trying to gain fast myself. 112 f. I have an extremely hard time eating though. I don't like feeling full so it's hard for me to finish eating anything. I can barely eat a 10 piece chicken nugget in one sitting minus drink. But I wanted to share what I found to help. I bought boost drinks off the internet and they really help. I'm lactose intolerant, and I'm suffering from bone loss in the mouth area. So I eat soft foods mostly. It's boost plus, which has about 530 calories a carton (24 pak). It's about the same price as a bag of serious mass protein powder. Which is also good if u don't mind all the sugar lol. If u have extra money I really suggest these. I was 95 pounds before I got serious with my weight

Oh yes I drink boost daily. It's helped me gain almost 5lbs in 12 days.

I'm in a rush to gain the weight. I don't care what kind of weight it is. I have always eaten until I was satisfied then I'm good. Not until I feel stuffed. That's a miserable feeling. Your stomach feels like its about to burst. I don't get how people eat until they're stuffed on a regular basis, ughhh. How many Boost's do y'all drink per day to see results?

Make sure you stay eating your food earlier in the day to make it easier towards the end of the day. This has helped me a lot and I hope it does the same for you too!
