For some reason, I struggle daily to lose weight yet I put my potatoes in the oven for 1/2 an hour and they lost 3 ounces. So my question is do I weigh them before or after cooking?

Or weigh them before and record them using an uncooked weight. Doesn't really matter, just be sure your method matches the entry you're using in the database.
They weigh less (primarily) because some of the water they contain evaporated in the baking process.0 -

Yes, this. Make sure you use the correct entry if you're cooking it versus not.
I weigh everything raw and use raw entries from the database.0 -
Raw weight will always be more accurate. Cooked weight will be a guesstimate that possibly came from a random log or a food product that is related to it. Use raw weight if you want to be most accurate.0

I thought you were going to suggest that we all get in the oven for half an hour so that we could lose 3 ounces.0

Its only losing water so it really doesn't matter as long as you are logging it as cooked if weighed cooked or raw if weighed raw.0

I don't call getting in the oven easy! I am not going to fit, and additionally, I don't think I tolerate baking well.0 -
