Question about working out...

Okay, I've notice that I go to the gym and I do 30 minutes on the elliptical trainer. At the gym it says I burned 270 calories, but when I type 30 minutes into MFP it says I burned 359 calories, that a big difference! I love the bigger numbers better but I'm curious as to which one I should put? Does this happen to you all?

The only way to know for sure is to use a heart monitor. Play it safe and go by the lower number, especially if the numbers aren't drastically different.

I go with the machine because it knows how fast your were going and the intensity...for real accuracy get a heart rate monitor.
  • Okay, thank you!!

Yes. I think the mfp numbers are overestimates. I think the machines also overestimate by about 25%. I trust the numbers on my heart rate monitor even though they are lower:(

Yes, it differs from MFP to the machine, but I always use the lower number (which is always the machine for me) just so I don't go over my calories.

I think it says somewhere on here to use the number on your machine (eventhough the other one is much more tempting!).
