As silly as it sounds, my wife munches on ice all the time. I've even thought about buying one of those new chipped ice machines.

Has she ever been tested for anemia? No one has ever figured out the association, but people with anemia have a higher rate of chewing ice than other people. It doesn't necessarily mean she has anemia because plenty of people chew ice without having anemia, but the association means an ice chewer is more likely than the non-ice chewing population to have it.

I remember when I was pregnant I was addicted to ice, but only the one from McDonalds. I would get my hubby to pick me up a large cup of ice on his way home every night.

Ha, in Italy one time, I saw this one restaurant advertise this as part of the "tourist's menu", along with a bowl of iceberg lettuce, for like 20 euros.

This is often related to iron deficiency, so I would make sure she checks with her dr if all is fine, before considering it just a quirky thing to do.
