Catching Cramps!?!?

I'm in my second week of going to the gym. While using the exercise equipment, I continue to catch a cramp in the area of focus. And are extremely painful. Any suggestions to help with this?

    Could this be from overuse by chance or are you possibly prone to injury or close to one in the area this is happening?

    I will also add in, dehydration is huge for cramping.. electrolytes, potassium, sodium etc. all out of balance.

    @gia07 I've been doing really good staying hydrated. But it's mostly water. Nothing else really. I just didn't know if there was some sort of pre workout drink that would help out or something.

    Make sure your getting your daily allowance of iron to help get the oxygen into the blood and into the muscles.

    How much weight are you putting on it? My first thought is to reduce the weight.

    Take a good multivitamin. Do you stretch before and do a little warm up? The warm up could just be for 5-10 minutes on the treadmill/elliptical (your fave equipment) before you start

    I agree - it could be the amount of weight you are putting on the machine. Try to start off with a lighter weight until your body gets used to the movement/form and see if it keeps happening. The gradually increase in weight.

    Sometimes this also happens to me when I'm overworking that particular muscle like gia07 said - how often do you work your abs? If they're still sore from a previous workout try to switch your focus at the gym for a day and do something else like lower body.
