Does anyone have suggestions for a successful hiit workout or routine ?

Are you looking for actual exercise lists to do, or are you looking to do the more classic approach of picking one form of cardio and adding intervals?
I do the latter, and I've been doing the 10/20/30 approach. 2 minutes of warm-up, then a set of 5 reps of 30 seconds at a slow pace (30% peak effort or so), then 20 seconds of moderate effort (60% or so), then 10 seconds of all-out effort (above 90% peak effort).
In your first sessions, depending on starting fitness, you may only be able to finish one set. Once you can complete one set, give yourself two minutes of recovery then do a second set of five reps. Once you can do two, add a third set, then ultimately a fourth.
You can do this with basically any cardio - running, stationary bike, elliptical, etc.0 -

I love insanity but was looking to switch it up a bit. I know how to do HIIT I'm just unsure of which exercises to incorporate.0

Tabata workouts are great if you are looking for something quick and high intensity. You can get an app on-line (Tabata Pro) and I usually use the bike or treadmill, but you don't need to have equipment to do the workouts. Another great one that I do is incline sprints on the treadmill - sprint for 30 sec., off the treadmill and immediately do 25 squat jacks, rest for 1 min. and repeat...maybe start out with 5 sets and then go from there.0

I've been doing HIIT on the stationary bike, and loving it. I'm still new to it so I'm currently doing 15/60 breakdown. I find that music helps massively and a youtube video I'm finding amazing is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_p5-nTaiUFg it has voice prompts and rep countdown, very helpful!!0

First find out what your VO2Max is and make a note how that feels. Select an exercise (aerobic of course) and hit your VO2Max or above (neuromuscular) on each work interval. Allow 1:1 ratio between work and rest and do a few intervals (say 3-5). Do two to three sets and allow 2:1 or 1:1 work and rest ratio between sets. Top athletes can tolerate 2-3 training sessions per week for a mesocycle or two before tapering for that season's "A" event or two. And back to selection, its rather limited as there are no real competition for jumping jacks and such.
There is no reason to do them. Just increase your intensity and duration as you become more fit.0 -
