MFP to Fitbit - Calories consumed not matching

I'm not sure where to post this... I noticed this morning that on my Fitbit app that it looked like I'd consumed over 5000 calories yesterday (not the case or what was recorded in MFP) so I just manually deleted the incorrect info and went on my merry way. But now, as I was syncing for today, I noticed the same thing on my Fitbit app. Does anyone know why that is happening or how I can fix it?

I'm no help cuz it's never happened to me but there's a Fitbit group that may be able to help.

I don't know what's happening or how to fix it but the same thing has happened to me today. Hopefully it'll just right itself

Yeah, it's a glitch that sometimes happens. Go into the log section of Fitbit and you can select Food, scroll down, and delete the extraneous entries. Hover your cursor to the left of what doesn't belong and you'll see an X appear.

It freaked me out the first time it happened!

Ahh, so it could possibly be a temporary Fitbit glitch then. I hope you're right and it fixes itself. Thanks.

Yes the same thing happened to me today. I just figured it was an MFP issue.

    I'm getting the same issue.

For me it doesn't look like extra entries.

Looks like it's bringing across kj from mfp as calories.

418 kj snack seems to come across as 418 calorie snack. When it should be closer to 100 calories.

    Or am I misreading it?

This also happened to me today for the first time! Glad to know that I didn't mess something up somehow.

it's a glitch. It has happened a couple times to me since 2013. What happens is you edit one of your meal logs (like lunch for example) and your old lunch + your new lunch calories show up on Fitbit's site. It's like it has a memory lapse and forgets to delete the old one. I don't think it's fixes itself, but you can go in and delete the logs that should have been deleted.

    Just double checked.

Logged a fish oil tablet in mfp for 6kj.
In Fitbit it's come across as 6 calories instead of 1-2 calories.

Also I am sure my Fitbit used to have a summary, so in mfp I logged 5 foods for breakfast and Fitbit would import the total but the past two days it appears to bring across each food separately.

I haven't edited anything and it did it to me. It is showing that my lunch was over 7000 calories. I dont use kj on MFP so its not a conversion problem for me...

How much have you logged in mfp and Fitbit? In calories.

    Was your lunch 1600 calories?

I just looked at mine for today. It's been a few hours since I last logged food, but what I saw was that each time a food was added to log, a summary was sent over and the previous summary was not deleted. (like I mentioned in my above post) One of the summaries was the correct total for the time frame (my diary is broken into time fragments) in question. It looked like this:
7 am - 10 am Summary 10 (my almond milk)
    7 am - 10 am Summary 241 (pancakes)
    7 am - 10 am Summary 251 (almond milk + pancakes)
7 am - 10 am Summary 374 (eggs, almond milk, pancakes)
7 am - 10 am Summary 389 (correct full summary)

^ Every time segment I had food was something like this today. So any time I added a food to the log, a new summary was created but the previous was not deleted.

I had this problem today too. Glad the fix is simple!

I follow the MFP tech issue twitter and the problem is on there end - last I saw, they were working on a fix. https://twitter.com/mfp_ops

What I do is check my log on MFP to make sure I know which calorie count is right, then I delete the extras on Fitbit.

Defiantly sounds like I'm having a similar but different error.

I have the multiple summaries in Fitbit like you guys but mine aren't accumulative as if the Fitbit forgot to delete old summaries.

Oh wow yeah it's happening to me too. no5ue2i11o99.png
  • The Fitbit app just had an update come out. Looks like MFP and Fitbit aren't playing nice right now.

My fitbit calories was WAY off today too! I usually don't pay attention to the calories there at all, but it scared me that it said I was over when I glanced at my dashboard. I just went in and deleted the extra calories in fitbit to match MFP calories.

Yep! I was about to post a thread about this too. For the past two days it has been adding a new entry every single time I add a food, so the Fitbit Dashboard is telling me I'm like 5000 calories over. I deleted the wrong entries, but sheesh. It's also been doing two or three exercise adjustment entries a few times this week when I close out my diary.

Same thing happened to me. I just went to fitbit.com to delete the extra entries. Hope it's fixed tomorrow though...

Glad it wasn't just me. I just noticed it. I log food here though, so I don't usually pay attention to it on Fitbit. I use Fitbit for the exercise part mostly. But it was weird to see I somehow consumed 7545 calories and over 12000 mg of salt today.

Fitbit also sends a weekly progress report, and for those reports, the extra entries mess things up

I'm getting this same thing too. I found it quite entertaining when it said "Whoops! You're 7113 over your daily goal." That far over is no whoops. That would be an awesome eating day!

So glad it's not just me! Freaked me out when Fitbit told me I was 9000 calories over my goal today - you'd think I'd remember eating that much! :)

Customer support said the engineers are working on it. I thought Fitbit might be syncing with my mind and adding the calories in the foods I was thinking about. My mind has a huge appetite!

I wouldn't mind if it added all the times I'm thinking about exercising (and the calories really burned off)...LOL

Yes it's happening to me too! Just started on the day I flew from DC & I thought the time changes I flew through had messed with something. Keeps happening. Sounds like a Fitbit glitch

Phew, glad it's not just mine! Fitbit tech support have asked for screenshots of my stuff to try and figure it out. Fingers crossed it'll be sorted soon.
