Hi map friends. Not sure if I am posting this on the correct forum, but I would like to know if anyone has struggled with hypothyroidism? I am getting tested for this next week and I am a bit nervous. Is It something they you overcame and still managed too loose weight? Did you do natural remedies or medications to treat the issue? Any responses would be appreciated.

Hypothyroidism is extremely common. Many of us on here have thyroid issues. I was diagnosed in June and started taking levothyroxine. I started feelimg a little better within a couple of weeks, but it was about six weeks before I was able to start losing weight. Since then I've lost about 15 pounds fairly easily.

It's so very, very common. Synthroid is one of the country's most prescribed medications. Many people are hypo and lots of them don't even know it.

Since my thyroid was removed, which was two weeks after diagnosis, I have lost 96 pounds. Every single pound was post-surgery.

I know that some people have bigger problems. Some people are never able to lose and the Synthroid doesn't do for them what it did for me. But between being able to breathe better (thanks to the surgery) and the huge increase in energy, it's like I'm a whole new person.

Aside from my son, having my thyroid issues diagnosed is the single best thing that ever happened to me. :)

I've been hypo since 19. I'm 32. I've had weight fluctuations but it's all been within my control (birth, overeating, losing weight). I wish I could say it's had an effect either way, but unfortunately my diagnosis hasn't seemed to impact me at all. I will tell you that I've been consistent with my medication and get my levels checked every 6 months. Hope you have your answer soon!

Hypothyroidism is very common, especially in women. I was diagnosed more than 20 years ago, I am not overweight and never had serious weight issues. If you get a diagnosis, there is an initial period where you will need to have frequent tests (every couple of months or so) to figure out the right meds, and once you are over this phase, it really will not affect your life much. There are no natural remedies, and it is not something you will ever get cured from. But fortunately all it takes is a pill to feel normal.

I have had hypothyroidism since my early 20's. I take levothyroxine to control it. It might take a while to find the right dosage for you, but once you do you should be able to lose weight just like someone with normal thyroid function. Taking thyroid hormone is something you will have to do for the rest of your life if you are diagnosed as hypothyroid, but it is as simple as taking a small pill every morning.
