    Step one, join MFP
Step 2 - make a plan for a lifestyle change not just a diet
Step 3 - find MFP friends with similar goals (it really helps to stay motivated  ) There are so many people on this site that really know what they are doing....reach out and ask for help if you need it.
Step 4 - weigh and log everything you eat or drink
Step 5 - set small goals (ie: exercise x times per week, drink x glasses of water/day, eat at or close to daily goal, etc.)
Step 6 - review and change your goals as needed
Step 7 - stick with it even if you don't see the scale move as fast as you would like, it takes time but it will
Step 8 - repeat steps 4-7 until reach your goal
    Good luck!!!

Great start - you're at the right place with a definite goal. 2 lbs a week, 7,000 calories a week, 1,000 calorie deficit a day. That is a major goal, but tracking of food and exercise provide daily progress.
