I was an active duty U.S. Marine. After a little bit being homeless and after a long time of being depressed I got into an accident and ended up in a coma then I went through another round of depression and I still can't keep a healthy diet I could really use someone who can help me eat better. I usually eat whatever I want otherwise I be OK because I have a good metabolism however I eat junk

Welcome to the boards! Sounds like you have been through quite an ordeal. I admire your determination. As far as the junk food goes, I used to eat a ton of it. But not so much anymore. I believe it just became a habit for me not to eat it. The first few days of abstaining are pure hell, but each day becomes a little easier. They say anything you do for 90 days becomes a permanent habit. Good luck!

Thanks for your support. As far as going through a lot, I hate when I complain. The people who don't complain are the people who don't have any arms or hands or leg. I just need to learn portions and how to cook and what to eat.

I'm not from New England but...take it one day at a time. Little changes every day will eventually become habit. Keep reading these boards there is so much good information out there. I stick to lean meats, veggies, a little fruit, multi grain breads, rice. But I also allow myself a bag of chips if I want. But just one bag.
I try and buy snacks already portioned out so it's easier. Don't try and give everything up at once, and really you don't have to give everything up totally, unless you find yourself being the kind of person who cannot just have a little bit and stop...

good luck, you sound like you have been through a lot. Hope things are looking up for you :)

Great advice. I'm a perfectionist. One step at at a time. Thanks.
