I do not eat processed food. I do not eat rice, potato's, flour, etc. But MFP is still telling me I'm a carbivore. I eat a lot of protein or so I thought. Is there anyone out there that can help me with my nutrition if I can somehow make my diary public? I am prediabetic and I am trying to avoid having to take the metformin.

Can you clarify your goals? Are you trying to eat more protein or less?0

I meant carbivore, as in "your daily goal is to stay under 140 carbs" I see that all the time. I didn't ask to be made fun of. I asked for help with my nutrition.0

If lowering carbs is your goal, look through your diary and find entries that are contributing to a higher than desired carb amount (ie - entries with 'lots' of carbs).

I don't think anyone is making fun of you -- I think autocorrect made your post confusing to people.
What is the specific reason you want fewer carbohydrates? Some of us have changed the macros to make them fit our goals better. Just because something is a default setting doesn't mean you can't tweak it. But if you want to eat fewer carbohydrates, try looking at your diary to identify the items that are causing you to go over and swap for foods with more protein or fat instead.0 -

Thank you. I will try to figure out how to open my diary. I occasionally eat potatoes and I will eat pasta on days that I work out hard. I'm trying to get to 40 carbs, 30 protein, and 30 fat. I know MFP has the guidelines set for 50 on carbs but i am trying to build muscle to burn fat faster and i refuse to become full diabetic. I guess what I'm really after is how to get my protein up. I do use whey isolate and eat a lot of eggs but really do not care too much for meat.0 -
I am prediabetic and keep my carbs very low, usually under 20g. It has worked wonders with my blood glucose levels. I am usually normal unless sick or feeling stressed.
You are welcome to look at my diary but I haven't been using it as much this month. The summer and September will have more low carb meals logged.
I follow Dr Bernstein's Diabetes Solution book. He is a Type 1 doctor who was among the first to use a BG monitor. Hi goal is normal BG for diabetics. Not slightly high, but normal like the average healthy person. His low carb high fat (LCHF) way of eating works well for many with insulin resistance.
He advises, meats, eggs, seafood, nuts, avocado, butter, cream, hard cheese, olives, olive and coconut oil, be a major part of your diet. He also encourages people to eat plenty of green leafy vegetables, and some other veggies like beans, , snap peas, peppers, etc.
He advises basically giving up all foods made from grains or flours (rice, wheat flour, quinoa, cereal, oatmeal) and limiting starchy vegetables like carrots and beets, but especially potatoes and yams.

Losing weight (assuming you're overweight) and getting more exercise would help you improve your blood sugar levels and potentially reverse your prediabetes, maybe even more so than trying to hit some specific macro ratio (eating fewer carbs = treating the symptom; losing weight and exercising = treating the disease). But if you want to reduce your carbs, take juggernaut1974's advice and look at your food diary to see what you're eating that's contributing to your going over your carb goal.0
