Have you heard of taco soup? It does have a lot of sodium but if you are healthy and sweat a lot it shouldn't hurt you.

    Some ideas,
    1. Baked turkey meatballs - season with herbs and spices, (no egg or breadcrumbs required) roll into balls and bake in the oven. (also are really nice in a soup)
    2. Mexican style - pan fry with onion, garlic, salsa and beans, plus avocado etc in lettuce cups
    3. Bolognese sauce - have with pasta or zucchini noodles depending on your calorie goals
    4. Stuffed capsicum/tomatoes/anything - panfry with onion, garlic, herbs etc, stuff the veggies and bake

    The possibilities are endless!

I just sub it for ground beef in all my recipes. It doesn't taste the same, but it isn't bad either. My whole family got used to it pretty quickly.

Turkey chili is a great way to cook up some ground turkey.

    Ingredients

    1 1/2 teaspoons olive oil
    1 pound ground turkey
    1 onion, chopped
    2 cups water
1 (28 ounce) can canned crushed tomatoes
2 (16 ounce) cans canned black beans rinsed or cook some dry beans
    1 tablespoon garlic, minced
    2 tablespoons chili powder
    1/2 teaspoon paprika
    1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
    1/2 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper
    1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper

    Directions
Heat the oil in a large pot over medium heat.

Place turkey in the pot, and cook until evenly brown. Stir in onion, and cook until tender.

Pour water into the pot. Mix in tomatoes, black beans, and garlic. Season chili powder, paprika, oregano, cayenne pepper, cumin, salt, and pepper.

Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer 30 minutes.

Turkey meatloaf. Mix in sauteed onions and green peppers. Use stovetop stuffing mix in the place of breadcrumbs. Top with cranberry sauce instead of ketchup. It's like Thanksgiving dinner in loaf form.

Just sub it for everything you use ground beef for. I haven't bought ground beef since I began here in March 2012. The first time I used it no one liked it. I got frozen ground turkey and it was terrible. Now I only buy the fresh ground turkey. Jennie-o is a local company and very big in my area. Their Italian ground turkey is great too. In fact, I am making Spicy Italian Tortellini soup today with it. I am also making chili with their plain ground turkey for a chili cook off at work this week.

    Quick Chili

    Two servings

    436 calories per serving
    • 1 lb 93/7 ground turkey (chub works fine)
    • 1 14.5 oz can of diced tomatoes and green chilis
    • 1 TB chili powder
    • 1 package Ortega reduced sodium taco seasoning
    • 1 medium onion
    • 1 cup of water
    1. Brown the ground turkey in a large skillet.
    2. Drain the juice and fat.
    3. Return the skillet to the heat. Add the onions, water, chili powder, taco seasoning and tomatoes to the turkey.
    4. Simmer uncovered until the chili is the desired consistancy.

If I'm in the mood for spicy, I use Penzey's hot chili powder. If I want others to be able to eat it, I use Penzey's plain chili powder.
