I have just thrown 8 dresses away as I cannot get in them. Where did this weight come from.? I really don't overeat. It is so horrible being middle aged and overweight

Hey Amanda, Don't throw them away lol - plenty of older people lose weight. It's just a little harder! Log your food intake (this does get loads easier after a few days), eat 1450-1650 calories per day, try to achieve 45 minutes of some exercise each day (cycle to work, walk, jog, aerobics - whatever), eat plenty of protein and healthy fats, eat regularly, have treats but fewer than you have right now, eat smaller portions and eat slowly - chew and be mindful. All of these small differences will have an effect. Look on youtube to see how big even one pound of fat is. Be proud of each pound. It will take time but you can be whatever size you want. You are in control of your body not vice versa. Good luck honey.

Don't you though? Didn't we all? That's why we are all here. There's no shame in what's going on with you. Not here. We are all here for the same reasons. We don't like what we've seen in the mirror or on the scale or that feeling you are having right now. The only difference between the veterans on here and the newbies is that they've come to realize we don't have to live this way, and we're still working on accepting that idea.

Have you been logging your caloric intake? I know it seems really frustrating at first and it sounds monumental, but once you get into it (only took me a month and now I enjoy it) it really does become easy and even fun. What are your goals? Once you ask and answer these questions of yourself, this terrible feeling of "where did this weight come from? what do I do?" is going to go away. This is just a math problem. You CAN take control of this. And it will be easier than you imagine today, tomorrow.

Meh. I'm 50, and while I've struggled with my weight my whole life (and continue to struggle) I think that right now I'm in the best shape I've ever been in.

    Keep at it!

Don't think of it as "starting from scratch". You have been on a journey and now you have learned something to help you on that journey. That's all. It's more like step three! Steps one and two, recognizing an issue, and reaching out for help/information, are already complete!

Add me as a friend, I need encouragement, too! I just started logging everything 5 days ago. The first couple of days were a real eye-opener for me! You can do it! Just start with a couple of small changes. Once those are mastered, add more!
