The one you like and can commit to doing. Calories=weight loss, exercise=fitness

Find what you love to do and it won't matter, except in the context of making sure you are properly fueled for it.

    "Which exercise is best?"

The one(s) you will do regularly.

Reduce calories with your diet. Exercise for added energy, strength, flexibility. It takes a freak-load of exercise to work off a single cookie, so please don't use it for that. I suggest you try a bunch of different activities and keep the ones that you enjoy the most.

Tai Chi, for a lifetime of flexibility and mobility

Softball for an all-around workout, socialization, competition, and fun.

And there's running, yoga for flexibility, Zumba for an overall aerobic workout that is just plainly, a blast, and Power classes for strength and learning to lift safely. Cycling to enjoy my neighbourhood. It was a great day I could open a jar of pickles faster than hubby.

Find one you like and you are more likely to continue it, even after you lose the weight.

Keeping the weight off takes work too.

I started off by simply walking the dog..lost 60 lbs...and my dog was fitter than me. Then jogging. Then started weight lifting. Then racquetball...then zumba. Start something you know you will keep doing. As you get more fit, your interest in other activities will increase...especially group activities as you know you can "keep up and fit in". The main thing is: Start Something!

If you like to workout alone, there are lots of routines on YouTube like Fitness Blender and Pop Sugar.

If you like to work out with others, join a team or sign up for lessons. Tennis is a sport you can play at any age.

Agree with all of the above. If you don't like it, you won't do it.

"Best" is highly subjective even if you like many things. Are you trying to lose weight, tone up, increase your overall health, or move heavy things? Your exercise should somewhat be based on what your goals are.

I agree, what you enjoy are the best choices. You can check out fitness videos on you tube, fitness blender. You can check out a gym and see what they have to offer. You can try hiking, biking, swimming, running, walking. Keep your mind open and start trying stuff out!
