I haven't been very active this year because I have been working and have been a grad student most of the year. But my last class ended 10/18 and I do not intend to take another until Jan. 2016. So last weekend (10/24-10/25) was my first weekend in a very long time that I wasn't working on class work or on a plane for work travel. I hiked 26 miles and camped out overnight in the back-country. Next month, I've taken the whole week from 11/21-11/29 off from work. I'll be hiking just over 80 miles of the Sheltowee Trace.0

I disagree. I live in Iowa, and while we have some hills and no mountains, nature can still be enjoyable. I've hiked in most of the lower 48 states, including in Indiana. The Dunes in northern IN are a fun spot for a day hike. If you are in southern IN and close to Mammoth Cave in KY, there are a lot of great hiking opportunities above ground there. Some shorter hikes include Lincoln's birthplace home in southern IN. I'm sure there are a lot more that I'm not aware of.0
