Just getting started with myfitnesspal on my phone. I need to lose some lbs... I am enjoying getting fit. I do cross training 2 x a week, and walk/ intervals the other days a week. I want to run. I started with 5 K Runner and was running 5 K's but my old trouble with plantar fasciitis is interfering. I have great shoes and I ice, and stretch and roll on a rolling pin... And I'm so fed up with all this! I'm 46... Looking for motivator friends.

Not intended to be overly critical, but how do you know they're "great shoes?"

I used to just get shoes that "felt" good on my feet. One set ended up giving me knee pain. Based on a buddy's recommendation, went to a specialized running store (specifically "Fleet Feet") - they gave me a test, and recommended a specific make/model of shoe. Knee issue went away.

Bought the same make/model for a few years on-line. Company quit making it, just got a different pair that "felt good" at a big-name sporting goods store. Knee pain came back.

Went to back to a Fleet Feet in a completely different state, years later, got the test again (didn't tell them I was a previous FF customer). Same diagnosis, recommendation for the "same shoe" (except for the manufacturer changed the "cool name" of the shoe & model number).

I'm "sold" on their methodology for picking the right shoe for me.

Try going to a specialty shoe store and get fitted for running shoes. Most people benefit the most from doing that.

Also, talk to your doctor. They may have some exercises and stretches that you don't know about that would help.

I went to specialty store and bought the recommended shoes like you. And like you they are the same shoe I was recommended a few years ago...

Have been to the pediotrist and also have custom orthodicts.

If you've got custom orthodicts that aren't working, I would go talk to your doctor again. There's got to be something else they can do for you!

I got PF a couple months into weight loss. I could barely walk, let alone stand. I got a night splint and OMG what a difference! Have you tried that?

I used this too and it helped a lot. But it took some time to get used to sleeping with the night splint.
