All this talk about detox is making me feel like maybe part of it is real.
Have you ever done a detox?
Have you felt better afterwards?
It's just so many things on internet on it, maybe these sites are right?

Also, that's what dialysis is for... in a hospital. You'd know if you had a failing liver or kidneys.0

Nope. Body detoxes itself naturally. All these "detoxes" are laxatives and in some cases VLCD. Some even combine the two. Some are extremely dangerous.

The liver is self-healing. If you are, for example, a chronic alcoholic, or a heavy drug user, it can get to the point where it can't keep up with the amount of alcohol it has to process and then it starts to fail. That's when you need a hospital. No "detox" cleanse fad is going to fix a truly damaged liver.0

I have a friend who did a liver detox via some instructions online - she took pictures of the by-products (gross) and she has never been the same since. Always sick and no energy. Correlated with the 'detox'? It seems like it, but she won't admit it. From what I can tell, I certainly wouldn't do it.0

Juicing doesn't detoxify anything. I'm not even sure that people who use the word "detox" mean that they're actually trying to detoxify anything. When they say "detox" and "reboot" I assume they mean that they're trying to start over with clean,fresh slate.
It's just their way of kicking off a diet. It's generally harmless, but also purposeless.
If you actually have a liver problem, you need a doctor.
I actually have liver issues and have never once been told to juice, lol. "Eat healthy foods" is the advice I get over and over again. Also low-fat. (Which isn't to say that everyone gets the same advice for different things or should try to cure what ails them by going low-fat.)0 -

Well, considering the current obesity and chronic disease statistics, many people are walking toxic waste dumps from all the garbage they put into their bodies and their lack of activity. The most rational, common sense way to 'detoxify' your body is to simply lose excess weight, eat healthy unprocessed foods (mostly plants) and exercise. All these improve insulin sensitivity, kidney and liver function, cardiovascular health, skin condition, vascular, colon health etc.
Packaged processed products labeled as cleanses or detoxes, are for idiots. On the other hand, a 10 day or even 2 week 'cleanse' or 'detox' that involves you blending your own whole fruits and veggies into smoothies, is not completely stupid in practice. At least it's packed with vitamins and minerals. It can be used to reset one's taste buds and cravings especially if one has been eating a bunch of crap, and can help them break that cycle and afterwards adopt a healthy long-term plan.0 -

Overweight people are NOT walking toxic waste dumps. Just want to put it out there.
People having trouble removing waste are an interesting shade of yellow (jaundice). Infants are at risk until their own liver kicks in.

Well, for starters, how about the most recent one, processed meats, carcinogenic per WHO, and maybe excessive red meat as well? Next, everything under the umbrella of processed foods is to be kept to an absolute minimum. Everyone knows this. If these weren't toxic to our bodies, then cancer, diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure etc wouldn't be disproportionately high in developed countries which consume them in larger quantities compared to other regions/communities where these chronic diseases are less rampant and where whole foods (mostly plants) are the staples.0 -
I'm a strong believer that cardio exercise is the best "Detox" you can get.
Our body clears waste through several means. The liver, lungs, skin and of course our urine/kidneys and bowel/stools.
Cardio makes you sweat, breathe heavier and speeds metabolism. Go for a run or fast long walk. Free of charge and your body and purse are grateful for it.
