Weight Watchers and Plain ol' counting calories? I was contemplating weight watchers but is the point system almost just like counting calories?

I'd looked into it before I joined on here and it wasn't for me. I don't see the point in converting calories into points - you might as well just count the calories! I wasn't going to change to all the branded food types but using them would make the point counting plenty easier.

Good luck with which ever you choose :-)

With WW a food's points value is determined by three things. It's fat, calorie, and fiber content. Fat and Cals add to points value, Fiber reduces it. It's a little different from counting, but very similar.

I know with weight watchers, fruits & veggies are "free points"

I agree with Luci2403. While Weight Watchers has worked very well for several people, the bottom line to lose weight is calories in vs calories out. MFP does that for you. I can see that it would be a tough decision, personally I would stick with MFP and log your food and cardio everyday. It truly works and holds you more accountable!!

weight watchers isn based exclusivly on calories. the points are based on other nutritional factors as well. The more dietary fiber, the less points, is just one example. I did it in H.S and i loved it and got to my goal weight pretty fast. my return weight gain was due to PCOS that i didnt know i had. Anyway it's a little easier to keep track of everything else other than just calories. And i liked going to the meetings, so i think it's worth it if yuo need the support of going in and the accountability of weighing in with someone else every week.

I did WW in the past and the amount of calories were the same as MFP set for me. WW did not make me lose weight faster than MFP and this site is FREE.

if you wanted to go to in-person meetings it might be a good option for you- WW is relatively sensible compared to a lot of commercial programs out there these days -- but that said they have changed their system SO many times (even since i did it in 2008, never mind what they were doing in the 1970s!!!) it's hard to keep track of how well WW works because we all have different frames of reference... Sure, adding more fiber and eating cleanly is a good thing to advocate but WW is a huge multi-branched company with an online version, a glossy magazine, books series and all kinds of merchandise that are not necessarily part of what happens at the meetings.... for example, i would not recommend their WW branded foods & snacks:smile:
