I was recently put on Vyvanse to help control ADHD symptoms. The same day I started, I was not able to eat even a sandwich, 1 bite and I was full. My question is: has anybody else experienced this with medications? and Is it possible to get enough calories from smoothies?

It's very common with stimulants. Often once you get used to taking them your appetite will come back.

I have heard many people report similar side effects at first.

If I where you, I would make a high calorie protein shake and sip on it to try to get your calories in. You could put a few scoops of peanut butter in it , a banana , whatever you like. But definitely try to get your calories in.

If you continue to have side effects , please mention this to your doctor at your next visit.

The first few days I was on anxiety and antidepressant medication, my had no appetite and all I could handle was yoghurt for the first two days! I would give it a few more days but try softer foods like soups, smoothies, yoghurt and icecream to see if that help

I was on Topamax a few years ago for siezures. Doctors sometimes prescribe it for weight loss, though I didn't need to lose weight at the time. The first few months I was losing around three pounds per week. I had no appetite and the thought of eating made me want to gag. I was living on protien shakes and smoothies. I eventually had to change medications because I couldn't get beyond that side effect. Unfortunately I lost a lot of muscle during that time, and am struggling to regain it.

It is possible to get your calories from smoothies, but that gets old quick. A lot of my smoothies were around 700 calories each, but like I said, it got old and I missed actually being able to eat. If you absolutely need this medication and find that you are chronically under on your calories and nutrients, discuss it with your doctor and see what alternatives there are.

    Good luck OP.

I have found taking it with a large amount of water helps, but mostly your body just needs to adjust over the next few days/weeks. If this continues you may ask if your dose can be lowered so you can slowly acclimate your body to the medication

it is a side effect of the medication which is why many abuse it for exactly that reason. If youre not hungry eat anyway. If you are afraid of feeling full eat more calorie dense foods to at the very least meet your caloric goal.
