Cheat Days

I'm currently on a 1200 calorie deficit after recently getting off of Keto (no carb diet). Although it's much harder than Keto, I've been sticking to my deficit just fine. I'm worried about Halloween though, as I know I'll be doing a ton of drinking. Any advice on what to drink to stay low on calories? Should I skip my meals to save calories for alcohol? (Would be a one time thing. I love food) and how bad is it to have a cheat day? Does that completely defeat the purpose of sticking to a deficit? Thanks!

Straight liquor is always the lowest in calories and carbs, and what you mix it with depends on you. I would anticipate how much you might drink by pre-logging and then compensate accordingly. Exercise, cutting back carbs, or simply counting it as a cheat day and moving on. That is up to how YOU feel about it. No one is going to call the MFP police if you have a cheat day...

Just remember to log and you'll be fine. One or two days of drinking are not gonna ruin your diet.

I have a Halloween party at the weekend...I would usually drink prosecco but I'm definitely opting for vodka, lime & soda

If you can't have one 'day off' from tracking due to an event or special occasion then I don't want to be on this planet anymore. Increase your exercise in days running up to the party if you wish. Bank some for the occasion if you can (although you are already on a very low calorie plan..) but ultimately, enjoy the occasion and get back on track the day after. That's what I do :)

I just did a study on bodyforlife and their ways of exercises and nutitional value. It was a pretty intense program and even they had a cheat day each week. I think you'll be ok with one day off

Thank you guys! I normally wouldn't worry about taking a cheat day but i just started the deficit and didn't want to have time wasted. I'll stick to liquor!

Don't drink tons of booze on a mostly empty stomach. Exercise extra to "earn" more calories (or just eat AND drink and go over for the day).

Yeah, I can't drink on an empty stomach. I'll get sick. I'm just gonna have to go over for the day :/ thanks for the advice!

Yes, for sure make sure you eat enough...don't be like me and drink most of your calories for the day and end up at the bar, totally plastered, smoking on some hipsters old fashioned tobacco pipe...

I swear I can still taste it. :s

Bonus: he was wearing a pea coat and had a pencil stash and a spit curl I swear...
