When do you stop eating at the end of the day?

I need a little advice from some veterans out there as to what time of the day is the best time to stop eating that produces the best overall results for weight control...? I'm finding conflicting advice from my own perspective and want to know from those of you that are getting consistant results. Thanks in advance!

Honestly, I don't eat after dinner. I will continue to drink my water all the up until I go to bed. I usually eat dinner anywhere between 6-6:30 pm. I would say once every two weeks or so I will have a snack after dinner, but usually I'm done eating for the day by 6:30-7pm at the latest.0

I try to finish by 8, 2 hours before bedtime.0

I try not to eat past 8 o'clock. I usually try for 7 but some days I end up having a later dinner.0

Same here - around 6pm as you metabolism starts to slow down after that0

I usually stick to 8, but sometimes will have a yogurt before 9 as a little dessert/nighttime snack:)0

I always have an evening snack about 2 hours after dinner then I have a tablespoon of peanut butter right before I go to bed to keep me from waking up in the middle of the night hungry.
I started to do this long BEFORE I was pregnant and it never had a negative impact on my weight loss as long as I planned it in my day.0 -
Take a look at my diary and see how I lost all the weight and am keeping it off. Go back a few months to see lower calories. since I am on maintain now I have more calories to eat. YUM.0

I don't have a set time to stop eating. I've lost almost 20 lbs in 2 months.0

I listen to my body. If it's 10:30 at night and I'm hungry, I'm going to eat. Although after 8ish, I'm going to stick to really light stuff, like cereal, salad, lower calorie fruits, etc.0

I usually shoot for a twelve hour fast over night. Currently breakfast is after my workout around 7 AM, so I TRY not to east anything after 7 PM. I think the goal is to reduce empty calories @ night.0

Usually around 20-60 minutes before I go to bed, as long as I'm not going over my daily limit, I'll keep eating haha I usually have between 300-500cals at this time.
for a specific time... it depends on how tired i am, but I'd say between 10pm and Midnight, sometimes later. (I usually wait until 10 to start this "meal")0 -
I don't eat anything after dinner either. It all depends on how late our kid's ball games get over! We eat anywhere from 6:00-9:00. I don't usually get to bed til 10 or so.0

If I have calories left, I don't really pay attention to what time it is. I usually have a snack after dinner if I have calories left. If I am super hungry(not just munchies) I will have a snack even if I have used all my calories for the day. I can't go to bed hungry, I won't sleep. So usually I try to make sure I have a couple hundred calories left to spend after dinner.0

Like most I stop 2 hours before bed - but I have no carbs after 4pm period. I'm usually hungry in the morning - but I don't wake up in the middle of the night needing food. I eat/drink a meal within 30 minutes of waking up to kick-start my metabolism. (Protein shakes are great for this!)0

7 is typically when I stop eating...I get really bad heartburn all night long if I dont. Anything after 7 is only water0

ohhh myyy....my eating habits are APPALING compared to all of you good folks..I will try so hard not to eat a THING after 8.00 pm now...just to see if it's a difference that makes a difference..0

I usually would stop eating an hour before bed time. Since starting this MFP I only worried about the numbers, not the time of day. Am I doing something wrong? I'm up for scaling back if it helps towards my goals. I'll have to check back and see what others say......0

I stop eating by 8 or 8:30. I fill up a big glass of water and keep it by my bed and drink while I read or watch tv.0

I aim for 2 to 3 hours before bed. 7 or 8 is usually the latest I like to eat. I occasionally eat later, but that's only on a date night.0

I generally don't eat after dinner and since I get back from the gym around 19:45 - I'll usually have eaten by around 20:30 (unless I'm doing a jacket potato or something). If I'm starving and low on cals I might have a snack after dinner but will try to keep it minimal and healthy (weetabix is a common one for me).0

Thats me. I have to have at least 2 hours in between the time I eat dinner and when my head hits the pillow. I rarely eat anything after dinner.0 -
The experts say that what's important is what time do you eat breakfast? Break. Fast. The fast should be about 12 hours before you break it. E.g.: If you don't eat breakfast until 9:00, eat until 9:00 the night before. If you chow downon oatmeal at 8:00, stop eating after 8:00 the night before...and so on.

It can be a nightmare for me - I work rotating shifts; 2 early days, 2 late PM/evenings, 2 night shifts then a few days off before it starts all over again. It means your body clock is always confused. I have tried not to eat when I am not hungry, leave it a couple of hours min before going to bed, eat regularly through out your day (little and often better than saving all your cals up for a blow out.) It works for me, but you have recognise we are all different. Just be sensible.
Whilst I'm at it can any one explain this "eating your calorie deficit" business. I have a 1,200 calorie goal set at the moment. I have eaten under every day since starting. I add my exercise to the diary which obviously would "allow" me more calories each day. But I don't "eat" these. Seems daft - I thought you were meant to eat less calories to loose weight. Not exercise to eat more. Have I got it wrong?

Eat when you are hungry and only then- it doesn't matter what time- just listen to your body. x0
