Six months ago I broke my leg and ankle and had 8 pins and two plates put in. I've been exercising on it for two months - I notice though every time I do squats or leg curls, the right side of my legs and bum (my uninjured side) only hurt the next day- I try and focus on using both just as much- but it just doesn't seem to be working. So how can I stop babying my injured leg??? Is one side of my body going to be tone??

i had knee surgury in january, and the physical therapist i went to after had me doing squats on a bosu (sp?) ball (the half moon balance boards) in order to keep me from favoring one side or the other. he also made me do single leg squats on my injured leg to help build stability and strength

I, too, have to do squats on a bosu ball to strengthen my knees. I also do a lot of resistance band work in order to make sure I don't favor one knee more than the other. I have blown out both knees in tha past year and a half so it's been a struggle to strengthen them but it is possible. Just keep it at.

Also, if you use a gym and the machines at the gym, you can set the weight to half the amount you would press with two legs and just do one leg at a time.
  • Ok, I'll have to try the ball. Thanks everyone!

Also try doing single-leg exercises. Like squatting half the weight, but using only one leg. That way you can't baby it.
