I have been on here for about a month and did so well for the first two weeks ( I lost 4 pounds). Well needless to say I started having pain in my knee when I would walk up hill and ignored it--fast forward to 2 weeks ago- I havent been able to walk at all without limping or using my crutches. My doctor says I sprained my knee..I feel so bad that I was off to a good start and now Ive gained back my four pounds!! Anyone have any ideas on how to exercise this way!!?? It's been two weeks now...

P.s. My vacation is in 4 weeks and Im running out of time :(

I know you won't want to hear this - but, please take care of yourself while injured. I ignored a hip injury last year and ended up with a stress fracture in it. So, listen to your body.

That being said, how about swimming? It'll be easier on the joints than traditional exercise, but can still be a workout. Check out your local fitness clubs or Y - they will sometimes offer water aerobics classes. :)

Swimming is good for the joints and less stress on the body.

With lower body injuries I have been told to do shadow boxing. by keeping your legs in place you can still move your upper body its good cardio for injuries.

Not sure what your calories are set at, but make sure they are set at a weight loss intake, if you can't exercise, keeping calories lower is so important.

Swimming? Sitting on an exercise ball and lifting dumbbells or using resistance bands. You probably aren't going to be able to get that good fat burning cardio but you can try your best to at least keep your body moving.

    Best of Luck!

I can't see your diary, but the bad news is weight loss is only about 10% exercise, and 80% diet. So even if you did nothing at all except your normal routine ( and I am not talking about any type of exercise) and ate the amount MFP gives you for your age and build and height you would still lose weight, not as fast as with the exercise but you would lose. So to have gained your 2 lbs back you must have eaten 3500 calories for the week over the amount that it takes to maintain the weight you are at now. Example... If I wanted to maintain the weight I am right now, I would need to eat roughly 1800 calories a day. So for me to gain 1lb over the week, I would have to eat 1800x7= 12,600 calories + 3500 = 16,100. So my advise is to continue to eat the base amount the MFP set for you and you will lose. Good luck.

I have the same problem, except I injured my left knee and left shoulder. And this has been a reocurring thing. I'm getting very frustrated.

Next week I'm going to take a private Pilates class. Maybe the instructor can figure out why I keep injuring myself. Its not like I'm doing anything extreme. I actually injured my shoulder this time by shaking out a blanket. :(

And you could always work on abs while the knee is down and out too. Shadow boxing would be could as long as you don't do the footwork normally associated with it.

If you can, go to a playground and get on a swing and swing. I couldn't have done that at my heaviest, but while I was waiting for my son to finish playing at the playground I decided to do that. I had my HRM on and vigorous swinging got my heart rate up to the 126-131 and kept it there. I never expected that. Now this is not relaxed swinging, but what you did as a child (probably) where you tried to go higher and higher every time.

Other than that, I second that weight loss is all about diet. Yes exercise helps, but you need to stay within your calorie goal. Also, unless your activity was set at sedentary, you may want to lower it while recovering because you will be less active.
