Keeping bananas at room temperature in the winter

So I don't know what clicked but I'm finally able to moderate bananas. Maybe because I just kept buying them when they'd run out and finally got sick of them. But not really

Anyway, I thoroughly enjoyed them all summer, but now they feel cold when I bite into them. So, Dear Fellow Banana Lovers, how do you keep them at a nice yummy edible room temperature, ready at a moment's notice for your fruitilicious enjoyment?

Try draping a light towel over them. If you keep them on a counter, either use a banana stand or set them on a folded tea towel (or pot holder.)

These are all guesses, btw. I like cold bananas and put them right on top of the ice pack in my lunch bag so they're good and chilled by lunch :)

    Heh liking cold bananas.

It actually doesn't help my case that I'm a bit of a cheapskate and keep the house fairly cold so the gas bill is low. I should hate to start burning $$ just to keep the $1 banana nice and warm! Will have to try the towel idea, thanks!

This is your chance to invent the next Seen on TV item. The banana warmer!

I was just so desperate to keep the bananas warm all winter that I wrote the post, anyway ;)

I was going to suggest the microwave. :)

Room temp is different everywhere. I noticed Alton Brown saying so on his show once, lol. He was suggesting that the butter be used at some temperature and he said anything between 65 and 70 would be fine. He followed up with something like, "In some areas of the country, that is considered room temperature." Then he looked at the camera and added "Not in the south." I cracked up so hard. My rooms temp is usually 78-80 in the summer and as low as 74 in the winter.

I had learned the hard way that if I brought my butter to room temp, it wouldn't work out correctly. It has to be used before it hits the temp of my room. :)

68 degrees is just too dang cold.

Sounds like the microwave worked for you. I was going to suggest finding a warmer spot for your bananas, such as next to the stove (especially if it's gas), or near a heating vent/radiator, etc., depending on the type of heating system you have.

These are pretty cool, too. I'll have to think up a spot that works! Say, I'd need to actually use the stove from time to time for this to help, right?

Yes, me too. Just had one that was nice and frosty cold from being next to my frozen steamfresh veggie pack. :) But then, when I grew up, my mother kept the bananas in the fridge so they were always cold.

Anyway, do you have a spot that gets the sun? Maybe that would work.

Well, there are things called Willie Warmers. I suppose you could get one of those and put your banana in a sweater. (Google "willie warmer" at your own risk.)

Of all the things I've seen people put sweaters on...

I think if you rub the banana gently with warm hands, it should come up to room temperature nicely. Stroke gently to avoid bruising.

Keeping bananas in the refrigerator actually makes them go bad faster. Although I've never heard of anyone wanting them warmer than room temperature.... maybe you could just hold it in your mouth before you bite into it? Let it warm up before you bite gently into it, it will feel warmer to you?

Sometimes when you get too eager to eat the banana you stroke too hard or fast.

Like many of my friends know, I'm anti-banana. I prefer my calories in the form of sausage.

I put them on a shelf above the sink....and this is exactly what they look like:

The little outfits keep them warm as they stare back at me, wondering.....

    Am I next?

That would solve the OPs problem. Sausage is always warm. *nods*
