So I am new to the world of smoothies so going to ask some silly questions!! For starters protein powder yay or nay?? I bought a tub and tried adding a scoop to mine today...by wasn't sure if that's how it's supposed to be used. I got a plant based protein one with added greens. And how to coffee drinking people who also work do it?? If I drink my coffee first the smoothie gets melty if I do smoothie first coffee gets cold..lol need pointers and recipes too if you feel like sharing!! Thanks

    Ooh also could I make a pitcher the night before and keep it in the fridge for the morning to just grab and go? Would the protein powder be okay in the mix or would it separate?

    I don't know if it counts as a smoothie or a milkshake but I normally mix a banana, 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder and skim milk together in a food processor with some homemade low calorie coconut butter. It tastes amazing and stores well. Very filling, 300 calories but I'm set until dinner! You might be able to use protein powder but I've never tried it so I can't vouch for results!

    Hmm I usually have my smoothie as kind of a dessert/snack, so I don't usually do protein powder - but sometimes I do. My smoothies typically come out to be under 200 calories - usually I just use fruit and Danon light & fit Greek vanilla yogurt. Sometimes I'll add truvia if the fruit is tart.
    I've frozen my smoothies before, then taken it out in the morning a couple hours before I'm ready to drink it. That way I have my coffee hot, then by the time I'm ready for my smoothie it's melted enough to drink. I have one of those plastic travel cups with the shaker ball in it, so it helps with mixing the smoothie in case anything has separated.

    Never pre-mix your protein shakes. They are absolutely disgusting if they sit overnight.

    You could make a coffee protein smoothie and solve both problems. :) I have a chocolate protein mix and use my leftover coffee from the morning pot, add ice, add the protein, sometimes yogurt and a half of a banana and a splash of milk.

    And you always want to mix your protein or any smoothie right when you want to drink it. They really don't keep.

    Protein powders are not required unless you are doing some serious weight training. For most athletes you can consume enough protein from your normal food without the need to use powder too. As ljcox7210 suggested if you want a chocolate flavour use cocoa powder. I use half a banana, peanut butter, semi skimmed milk and 3 ice cubes.

    Are you lacking in protein? Powders are to help meet your goal when you are. Personally, I like to eat my calories, as some smoothies can be calorie bombs.

    What is your goal for your smoothies? For meal replacement or just a way to get more nutrients? I like two handfuls of spinach, some strawberries, half a banana and a bit of stevia. It's pretty decent calorie wise and gives me some good nutrients.
