For me it was
A day of junk food will not make you fat
Just like a day of salads will not make you fit
I have a difficult time being nice to myself and letting myself make mistakes.

Advice that is helping me is along the lines of "I didn't gain all the weight in a day, and I'm not going to lose that weight in a day", and if I mess up going over calories, don't panic, just start fresh tomorrow. Other things that have helped me is understanding reasonable weekly weight losses and gains that people here in this forum have experienced.0

Other things that have helped me is understanding reasonable weekly weight losses and gains that people here in this forum have experienced.
It took me years to drop the 80 i have lost so far and I need to lose 20-30 more and it feels so far away .
Teaching yourself to be reasonable is one of the hardest parts. When i first started losing I was in the mindset that the biggest loser was normal for weight loss. Like 30 lbs a month0 -

Get enough protein (1 gram for every pound of lean body mass) and add some strength training to lose mostly fat and preserve lean muscle.0

You need to consume 3500 calories above maintenance to gain a pound. The scale may bounce higher because of fluid retention associated with higher glycogen levels after that big carb day you had, but it's definitely NOT a pound of fat. Calm the eff down.0

Make things a win-win - e.g., if you get off track, it's an opportunity to figure out what lead you off track and get practice getting back on track.
Be on guard for avoidance. Identify that feeling you get when you want to "ignore reality" and use that as a cue to lean in and do the thing you are avoiding. e.g., avoiding logging? LOG!0 -

"Get a scale" is also my vote for best advice. And I will add, develop sustainable eating habits. This is for life. It's not a race. It's good that you're taking you're time. Congrats on your progress!0

The concept of "flexible" dieting changed my world. Just the idea that there is no such thing as good or bad, just not enough and too much. Made this a lifestyle and not something temporary.0

-Don't be afraid to eat.. you can eat more and lose weight.
-Don't be afraid of eating fats.
-Do resistance/weight training and little cardio.
-Weigh your food.
-Don't get bent out of shape if I slip up and binge. Log it and move on.

My answer changes every few months..lol..I'd say there are three"best" tips that I've learned and found worked for me....first Buying a digital food scale. If you haven't done so already and are eyeballing, but can't figure out why you're not losing weight? That could be it. Second thing was to eat more. I was consistently undereating, without realizing it. Because of some bad allergies, I had to remove quite a few things from my daily diet...in so doing, I wasn't eating enough, and wasn't losing. THE MINUTE I upped my calories, I had greater success, consistently. The last tip, and it really did take me 46 yrs to figure this one out. Don't take it all so seriously. It's not life and death! (unless you are morbidly obese, which I haven't been in a long time). Some days will be great, other days will suck....We just gotta learn to roll with it. xo0

Likewise. The only difference now is that I don't beat myself up over it and give up. I cannot remember who keeps saying 'log it and move on', but that helped SO much. One day is just a tiny portion of the journey.0 -

I hit a food binging slump this past weekend, and it got me in a funk. But I'm not giving up, and it's nice to know it's okay to mess up...it's gonna happen more than once, so just get over it and get back on track.0
