BREASTFEEDING AND WEIGHT LOSS

Hey everyone! So I guess this post is geared towards the mommas out there.

4 weeks ago I gave birth to my little guy. Prior to getting pregnant I was consistently losing weight with a calorie deficit and weight training. I had managed to lose 93lbs.

Now I'm 2 weeks away from getting the All Clear and I'm wondering how to go about getting back into my routine. I want to keep improving my health and I want my son to grow up in an active household.

I'm breastfeeding and have a good supply going. My fear is if I go back to my usual weight loss program it'll kill my supply. I know it's an extra 300-500cals and my BMR is about 2100. Should I just eat the ~2500 a day and hot worry about eating back burned calories?

In desperate need of advice from ladies who've been there before :) TIA

It's been a while since I've breastfed (son's now 10). Maybe try eating how you used to and see if there are any changes in supply. If so adjust accordingly until supply is at a good level.

Aim for a minimum of 1800 calories. If you notice a drop in milk supply, add back 100 calories at a time until milk is okay. And of course don't start until you get past 6 weeks :).

First remember that every woman is different with breastfeeding. Some consistently lose weight for months just by nursing, are extra hungry, etc. others, like me, stop losing after 4-5 weeks and everything goes back to normal.

I'm 10 weeks pp with baby 4, nursing as well. I've lost the 30-60 lbs I've gained w each pregnancy and am starting that process yet again this week. Just started really back to exercise/diet bc my pelvis took longer to get back together this time (major pain if I ran). I personally don't add in any extra for nursing but just don't reduce calories quite as drastically. 1700-1800 seems to work for me (+ exercise).

Just listen to your body and don't push past the pain --your muscles and joints are still recovering!

Also, I noticed w my last one that 3-5 lbs hung around until I fully weaned him at 14 mo, then they dropped off in a week or two with no extra effort, so don't be surprised if that happens :)

Keep taking your prenatal vitamins--that will help your supply.
