Am I burning off enough? NEWBIE.

Hi I'm age 22, female,5 4 & current weight is 10 stone 9. I've recently joined back upto the gym and was wondering if I am burning off enough calories. What is the average amount to burn off in an hour at the gym? Tonight, I really pushed myself and burnt off 581 calories. This is the most I have ever done and I REALLY PUSHED myself.. could I have some advice please? Thanks in advance ! X

1,740 is the calorie goal and I'm wanting to lose about 12 lb upto now & when I have reached that then I will set a new goal. I've decided to go to the gym ATLEAST 4 times a week and burn 500 calories each time . I've been doing it a few days and haven't gone over my calories yet.thrre are still quite a lot left, just due to not really having much of an appetite for the past 3 days

There's no magic number...I don't get my fitness on to hit some arbitrary burn...i workout for the sake of fitness and have fitness goals that are completely independent of trying to hit some arbitrary burn...the rest takes care of itself.

you "burn" calories 24/7 and relative to your "burn" from merely existing and your day to day hum drum, exercise calories burned are actually relatively insignificant unless you're actually training like an athlete...for which you should also be eating like an athlete.

as has been stated, MFP gives you a target for weight loss based on doing zero exercise. you shouldn't be undershooting it.

opinion: exercising is not as conducive to weight loss as eating right it
eating right is 90% of the battle

I have changed my diet too, to a more healthy one . The only way is up from here :)

Well, "healthy" isn't necessary to lose weight - "lower in calories" is.

Really, to lose weight, you need nothing more than to eat less calories than you burn. If you eat at or below your MFP calorie target, you will lose.

Now, healthy eating and exercise are absolutely great things for health and fitness, but neither is required for weight loss.

I'm putting all of my calories into mfp and I still have remaining calories left over, so I'm definitely eating healthier, exercising more and consuming less calories

@sophiecolekris how are you getting the number for the calories burned through exercise?

If you are entering your exercise into MFP ( this apps calorie counter) and letting it calculate your exercise burn, eat 50- 70% of those calories along with what MFP set you to lose weight.
You need the extra calories to sustain your exercise regime.

You can exercise as much or as little as you wish, just make sure you are eating those calories back.

    Cheers, h.

I am just putting in what I am burning on each machine .. although the exercise mfp calories counter does change the time of my exercise slightly but as long as the number of calories I have burned add up then it's been fine .. I'm just new to all of this and still trying to figure out how to work it all and get myself on the right track x x

When I complete my log entry for the day, every time it says that in 5 weeks I will be 9 St something which is what I am going for.. as long as I am in the 9 stone zone I will be really happy! I hope it works
